Maybe someone could help me with a recommendation here:

Favorite beer I've ever had was from a brewery in Cincinnati called Fifty West. It was a seasonal in I think 2017. A blonde or amber ale if I recall correctly, but don't know for sure. It was a golden ale about the color of 805. Had a mild sweetness to it on the way down. Slightly crisp after taste. No strong individual grain notes of any kind. Medium - full body for an amber ale - more than most, but not a crazy amount.

Also looking for a new bock beer to try.

I don't think there's enough interest for a dedicated cider thread, so I'm going to claim the beer thread for cider

I'm going around the Finistere for vacay and this cidre was particularly good. Not as bitter as other 'brut' cidres. Not too sweet. Very easy to drink

    Mon Dieu,

    cidre s‘il te plaît.

Honestly I consider English cider and French cidre two different things.
One recommendation don’t ever try German Apfelwein. I once had a French colleague try some having warned him before that it had nothing in common with cidre and he summarised it quite well “tastes like someone tried to make cidre and it went awfully wrong”

oh they are definitely totally different. You might as well compare lager and stouts.

I need to have more English ciders to form consensus but from what I remember, the English stuff tends more towards the sweet side. It's also a side show compared to the beers.

In Brittany cidre is the main feature. It's the one region that doesn't grow grapes so all that energy that would go into wine is used on cidre instead. There's some beers and whiskies around, but those are more aberrations.

I have had a few ciders and the GF makes them occasionally. I remember when a local bar first got in Stella Artois Cidre. That stuff was amazing. Light, sparkly, phenomenal.

Discovered this year that alco free beers aren't half that bad. Like Heineken and others. I just don't have time to drink beer and don't want to consume alco much. If someones give me homebrew, pub/bar own brew or just real good stuff I can't refuse.

If it had to be non-alcoholic, Clausthaler always seemed one of the best to me.

The sparkling hop water from Lagunitas is actually pretty good if you want another alternative.

Are any of our folk on beer advocate? I keep my notes there on beers I have tried. Would be interested to read our folks rankings. EDIT: I am not Bixby there but rather barneyrubble.

What's the strength on that one?

As a terrible snob, go Southern German Beer or go home:

Boooooooooo @soekris. I think the Germans got the concept down with simple ingredients. ;)

Naah, those Belgian monks brewed beers for hundreds of year, they got it right.... Not that I don't like German Beers, they make pretty good ones, just like the Czechs, Pilsner Urquel is my favorite Pilsner....

Gulden Draak is one of those Belgium beers that strikes a perfect harmony with me (and many others). Its not overly difficult to find, but is a nice drink on a cool or warm night. I feel fortunate to live in New England with a great many amazing offerings near by (heady topper, Treehouse, Hills Farmstead, Lawson's, Lord Hobo, etc.). Too many beers too little time as they say.

Been sitting on a Goose Island Coffee Bourbon Stout for nearly a year waiting for the right occasion to open it up...New years is coming and I think it might be time!

8%. Many of the dark Belgians are 8% or more. Nothing beats a true Abbey ale.
