Shit, thanks for reminding me about the Kloster Dobblelbock. Forgot they did that, I never had it. But my plan is working to get you more into German Dobbelbocks is working. :p

Night time snack. Andech's Weizen/Dunkel is flavorful/excellent, but I still prefer Weihenstephaner style of this beer since they have a little more flavor complexity.

my boycott of Avery has continued for almost 15 years now. I don't try any of their special ales or Stouts either.
    why?
15+ years ago, worked 1 block away from the Big A(ss) tasting room, in east Boulder.
went multiple times with co-wokers, try this beer. try this stout, try this ale.
guess what? every one of them had the same, single dimension mouth feel and taste. nothing complex. like water and 2 ingredients. thin, with no body. any difference in head from the draft pours? never.
oh, the Stout. yah, that has the same tinge of hops taste as the last 2 beers they brought out. wth.
the same month after month, despite "changing recipes for the season".

A Brewing was a bunch of Boulder dood neckbeards that managed simpleton recipes at scale, but not in quality nor diversity. They exemplify the largely boring amerikan crap basement brewing experience to brewpub hype,
god forbid learning about different malts or yeasts, or able to apply either at which the European masters excel.
the boycott remains intact, no way i ever waste $ on a can or bottle of their so called craft crap.

I have a polar opposite opinion about them. But let’s not fight. :)

@jexby That's a lot of time that has passed. It's likely that several brewmasters have passed through in that time (though I don't fanboy Avery, so I don't know this to be true.)
I get the grudge. I've had the same (but about a grocery store. Randall's is still not my first choice.) It's possible that things have greatly changed in that time. Either way, that's a burden you're bearing. I appreciate you letting me know what's up with your grudge, and I agree with most of their beers being shit. I think that's normal though. It seems to me that breweries make bland beers for bland people but they slide some passion projects in that are actually good beers and secretly wish they could only make great beers.
Anyhow, I appreciate your response and I respect your opinion.

i don’t drink beers from cans. have visited Upslope a few times but don’t consider them very unique.
not on my boycott list though. ;)

Interesting. I randomly purchased an Avery 6 pack, IPA something, a few months back (I am reluctantly getting used to cans when that is all that is offered) and was not impressed.

Fodder for for the IPA haters - three different styles:

L to R: Driftwood Brewing (Vancouver Island) Fat Tug IPA (also in the glass); Driftwood Brewing Original Gravity Haze NEIPA; Four Winds Brewing (Delta, BC) Juxtapose Wild IPA.

Fat Tug is a 'typical NW' style, with emphasis on the hops. OGH is a bit different from most NEIPAs in that it gets its haze from oats and pectin rather than non-flocculating yeast. Juxtapose is a Brett style that's also a bit hazy, but clean like the other two (all 3 are unfiltered) and more fruity.

These three illustrate why IBU is like THD. Fat Tug has the highest IBU, 80; the other two are 50. Subjectively, Fat Tug is indeed the most bitter but the citric acidity of the Juxtapose makes it seem quite a bit more so than the OGH, which has a softer, maltier finish.

All the components (harmonics, if you like) of a beer, rather than just the compounds responsible for the single IBU number, and their context in the rest of its flavour profile, are important in the subjective appreciation of its bitterness.

Very surprised on how good this one is, but at the same time I shouldn't be surprised. Doesn't even offend my German Beer taste buds.

    However, @jexby will be triggered about this photo in 3, 2, 1, .... :p

Good for @shotgunshane when he wants a weakerish German bock that isn't too strong like some of the stronger stuff out there. Can be a light desert drink or good to balance out something else (Fish/Beef/Pork). Light amber color of the drink is excellent.

yes, it's a Rochefort chalice. due to wear, the lettering has rubbed off.
their glassware can be verified by a stylistic "R" carved into the bottom (center) of the bowl, visible when looking inside an empty glass.
    which it will be shortly.

@YMO really scored with this recommendation for me. It’s like a combination of what I like in a Belgian and a wheat beer. It’s a nice combination on a pleasant 82 degree late afternoon, while waiting on the Green Egg to heat up.

Sad thing is that my beer drinking slows down a lot when the weather heats up. When it is cooler I can drive 3-4 bottles a week, now it will be cutting down to 1-2 a week.

I'm out of Aventinus...I need to pick up some more when I'm back at Total Wine.

Is it possible to find in bottles? And in sixers? Singles are steep but doable.

For what I remember, they sell them in a pack of four and in singles at my local Total Wine. I'll do the four pack, not like a can goes back if you put them in the fridge for one/two months.

Just had a Weihenstephaner Weissbier with Coke. Pretty interesting taste if you're into beer with mixers.
I usually prefer Radler (cyclist) - Helles (lager) with some fizzy lemonade, or more commonly known as Shandy in the Commonwealth.

Thanks for the reminder for the Andechs Doppelbock Dunkel, don't know why I didn't have it for a few months now.

My GF and I both find Aventinus has a hint of... savory? flavor, like a hint of soy sauce. Don't know how to put it.
