Lol this is funny... You realize that a Gustard X16 outperforms your praised Yggi by far and costs 500$?
    What is this all about?

That's an... interesting... perspective. How long have you owned a Yggdrasil and what other components were in the chain to lead you to this conclusion?

Eager to read the details of your PERSONAL comparison of the two — system components including source and type of files served, file delivery (usb, aes, spdif) along with the nature of the sonic differences in musical terms.

Does the name "X16" indicate 16 times better performance?

    If so next time go for 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048 ad infinitum.

Myself and a bunch of my friends use Yggdrasil. I am actually curious what is being insinuated that has overtaken Yggdrasil. I honestly don't have anything i would prefer to have anywhere near the price that I am aware of.

You owned the chart-topping X-Sabre Pro, so you get pass.

It's all about the SINAD, and the new ESS chip. I suspect the drive-by is someone from (or someone paid by) Shenzhenaudio or Gustard to bring attention to the X16.

Other audio reviewers are starting to call Amir out on his bullshit hack/hatchet jobs. Michael Lavorgna in this case: https://twitteringmachines.com/certainly-uncertain-when-measurement-results-dont-match-part-two/

Even considering only subjective impressions, other reviewers listened and evaluated tthe LRS, like an actual owner would, in a normal room setting as a pair. Amir as usual listened/evaluated it as a single speaker :Violin:

edit: oops meant to post this in the Audio Science Review thread. Mods feel free to move.

Blind testing is fun. The more I use it, the more I realize little can predict what I like. Probably because noise and distortion have slowly disappeared from the marketplace. Either that or I stopped being able to hear them. Either way it’s liberating and money-saving.

Indeed. Blind testing is actually a lot of fun. It's not hard to level match within 0.15db using cheap passive external pots like a JBL nanoPatch, Schiit SYS, or JDS OL and a switch. I'm quite surprised how I can actually hear the difference among some 100 to 120db SINAD products, yet sometimes I can't hear much of a difference between 80db and 100db products. Even then, less stringent single blind tests 0.3db level matching are just as fun too.

I don't know about y'all but I prefer old stuff with pleasant distortion.

I'm all for blind testing and often will surprise folks by leading a blind test when meets are at my place. I do encourage listening with ears instead of measurements. Purr1n would say let measurements back up what you hear and not the other way around.
I just kinda ignore measurements and let my ears decide.

What's even more interesting is to see the difference in individuals' abilities. Some people can gear small differences. Other people take a while or get better with practice. And yet some are just hopeless. We shouldn't be surprised that different people have varying levels of ability.

Last meetup we had a guy who couldn't hear differences in DACs. Everyone else could hear these seemingly easily audible differences and pretty well all heard the same thing. Enter new guy and he's introducing $3 Amazon pots to try to help him normalize the output to some sort of measurable level before listening. Didn't believe when we told him these pots were jacking up the signal.
We convinced him to ditch the pots and use his ears. Still nothing. I invited him because he said he couldn't hear DAC differences. I was SURE we could fix that. Turns out, nope. Dude just couldn't hear differences.
Lucky dude. His wallet will thank him.
