I was worried they would be a bit over kill but they sound great. I don't want to say too much yet because I have this ground loop issue and 0 treatment up. Will get the windows covered and some proper treatment done asap and review them formally here.

Looks very wow indeed. What's the rationale on having the tweater/mid on the inside or on the outside? Or is a case of what works for you?

Honestly I just copied what everyone else was doing. On some of the ATC forums people with really wide rooms seem to put them on the outside but they are often berated for this.

The ATC manual is very vague and gives basically no instructions.

It was a dodgy XLR cable I had causing the ground loop. Am I in the BWC club now? :D

Look epic dude. Some of the little iFi gadgets are very handy for ground loop problems, if your XLR change doesnt sort it, I'd recommend giving them a go.

EDIT: oops just saw you got it sorted. I'll leave this up for others with ground loop problems.

This is how my set up is looking currently. Hoping to do a bit DIY room treatment on the walls once I have a bit time. Its a fairly furnished room though, so it doesn't sound too bad already :)

Localisation is frequency dependent. If all frequencies come from the same spot, our brain localises the higher frequencies as being farther to the sides compared to the lower frequencies (wider stereo base). So if you have speakers with non aligning tweeter/mid(bass) drivers and you want sharper localisation then arranging the speakers with the tweeters on the inside is the way to go.

After messing with my Maggies when I set them up, I preferred the tweeter on the inside. There has been much debate on the topic :)

I've tried my Maggies both ways as well, and ended up preferring the tweeters on the outside. Nothing wrong with a healthy debate, but the correct answer is still do what sounds best to you.

Hanging your maggies horizontally from the ceiling is clearly the "best" way to do it :p

But then you have to figure out if you want tweeter up or tweeter down.

The easy solution is to buy two sets of speakers and arrange them in symmetrical side-by-side config on each side of the room. So now you have MTTM and it doesn't matter anymore.

I think they looked comical on my desk so I returned them.

Great synergy with this setup, Quicksilver 8417 monoblocks + Quad ESL-63 speakers.

Always did like quads, is that a supertweeter on top?

Just looked up the quicksilver, wonder how close in topology they are to the Quad II

Townshend Maximum Supertweeters. I picked up a pair for use with the Quad ESL 57s, been throwing them on every speaker to test them out. So far, meh.

The Quad II has some sort of odd phase-inversion design IIRC ? Supposed to be very good but I'm actively avoiding hearing it, I already have too many amps around to discover I 'need' another one. And I still have those F4s lying around to test. ;)

The 8417 tube is great, though getting a bit pricey.

DNA Stellaris + Klipsch LaScalas with Crites A crossovers. A bit hot with the WE422A rectifier, going to have to dial in the tubes.
