I like Iberian miniatures from this album, probably the most traditional sounding but very captivating.

A friend turned me onto a 20th century French composer I hadn't heard of, Henri Duttileux. "Metaboles" was one of the cuts he sent--I had to go right out and buy it.

This is wonderful music. The opening is straight out of Stravinsky, but most isn't in the least derivative. I love it when the strings come it...beautiful harmonies.

Shockingly good for someone with only 40 subscribers on YouTube.

If you wake up a bit depressed and already fearful of the coming day, or if you cannot sleep, listen to this. The tracks like Late, Rain Take, Then Patterns may calm you down.

Could be posted in the Classical Snobs, Esa Pekka Salonen Cello Concerto, but I think it belongs here.

I love the marimba and vibraphone, and totally love this minimalist piece featuring them:

The other night I purchased downloads of 3 classical recordings. Two contain various violin concerti played by my favorite violinist, Hilary Hahn. One of the concerti was composed by Arnold Schoenberg; another by Jean Sibelius. I'd never heard a note of either.

In "previewing" samples of those pieces, I was bowled over by them, especially Schoenberg's, composed in the 12 tone manner. I've never heard anything like it...eerily beautiful, never actually in a particular key (or so my ears tell me). That sound pleases me to no end.

But you be the judge. Here it is on YouTube:

I saw DUTILLEUX'S 'AINSI LA NUIT' (excuse the caps, pasted in for sp) performed by the excellent Chicago-based Spektral Quartet last year. Very cool piece, in one of my favorite venues, Constellation.

One of the best composers of choir music of all time, to my ears at least, is Wolfram Buchenberg.

I especially like „Als vil in gote, als vil in vride“ and „Von 55 Engeln behütet“, both can be found on the album „Buchenberg Chorwerke“ by the choir Cantabille Regensburg lead by Matthias Beckert. Those are the two I sung myself with a choir, too, and they are among his more easily accessible stuff, especially „Von 55 Engeln behütet“.

    Highly recommended!

EDIT: And if you like modern choir music, do also try Frank Martin’s Mass for Double Choir. Excellent!

There is a playlist on Qobuz with many of the composers discussed in this thread. Not sure what it’s called on English Qobuz, in German its name is “Hi-Res Masters: Neoklassik”.

I'll try "Buchenberg Chorwerke" -- and have Martin's Mass for Double Choir (very good).

Just listened to this recording. Love the lush harmony in "Veni, dilecte mi!" (very pretty). Reminds me a little of the Hi-Lo's. "Als vil in gote, als vil in vride“ is also very nice.

My favorite 20th century choral is Ligeti's "Lux Aeterna" & "Requiem" (eerie, strange, beautiful). Here are 2 other shorter favorites I listen to often:

Gavin Bryars' "Tersa Perfetta" from album, ON PHOTOGRAPHY:

Stanislaw Krupowicz' "Miserere" from album, MISERERE by Camerata Silesia (collection of Miserere's through the centuries, starting w/Gregorii Allegri's masterpiece of that name):

Nice, thanks for the tips! Ligeti is great, yes. I’ll try the other stuff, too.
