That doesn't really mean it's a market rate. Basically it's free to list on ebay so they just put up a huge price and if someone buys it, great.

Overtime they just keep lowering it until someone bites. Basically a dutch auction but on ebay.

Wow, is that screen as good as it looks in the photo? It's so vibrant, and there's a real solidity about the colours. It's a lovely piece of kit, and the aspect ratio is perfect for GB.

Better than I imagined. It's the same panel as the valve index which blew my f'ing mind when I tried a beta unit back in the day.

Holy shit, that's crazy. A 1600x1440 panel for perfect 160x144 10x scaling, and it's a panel used for reduced screen door effect so visual density will be even better. That's a special bit of synchronicity right there, for what seems to be a special bit of kit.

Have you had it side by side with any OG hardware?

I have a GBC with an IPS mod and this smacks it hands down. Screen is truly insane compared side by side.

Yeah the screen mods for original game boys don't even compare. I hope they do a form factor that suits the GBA better. Like 10x scaling for GBA games on a giant screen would be so good.

The only 2400x1600 screen I can think of is the 12.3" screen in the pixelbook. While that would be a badass GBA, it might be a bit big :). Analogue really lucked out that Valve had some crazy LCD made for the index that just so happened to be 10x GB/GBC scaling.

Anyone ever try a dongle dac on a retro gaming handheld?
    Say RG351MP or a Retroid Pocket 2.
Been eyeing the Miyoo Mini but maybe a better analog out is worth it \/

    Cool article on MiSTer

    https://wireframe.raspberrypi.com/articles/the-fpga-retro-revolution

Looking at the RG351 it should work. It’s Linux based and has an OTG port (like smartphones) for a wifi stick. Retroid has HDMI which mean you can split the signal with a Kanex Pro or similar device. Although not that portable

I discovered this device which can be configured to interface directly with the MiSTer

PSX core for MiSTer is out of beta and officially released

Also I have been looking at a lot of side by side images of CRT vs LCD

    Screen Shot 2022-05-12 at 10.59.05.png
There's a bit of an analogy here with vintage audio gear. In many ways LCDs far outperform CRTs. However the original developers did not work with LCDs and created everything to work with these limitations. Things look less pixelated because of edge softening. It's a different experience.

Likewise music back in the 50s and 60s didn't use 0.000001% THD gear. They worked with what they had and you might very well be taking information out by using ultra-low distortion gear.

Well y'see, due to the ongoing effects of time those of us who were born in this era and played these games in their original incarnation have built-in edge softening in our soggy old eyes. Heck, I can't even read the text anymore half the time.
