This absolutely raw performance from Matt Corby just builds and builds. It's a shame this has not translated into his albums but this is one of my all time favorite performances and it gets me in the feels every time.

This live album is full of gorgeous covers, Sara Bareilles is insanely good live. Just listen!

I love Henning May's voice, Similar to Rob Dougan and Tom Waits gravelly tone but very polished at the same time.
If you like this you should check out Henning May and Clemens Rehbein covering Roxanne

Sohn are an interesting band, there is over an hour of this performance but he finishes this one on a high note (pun alert).

Fink - I don't usually like Fink's stuff but this recording is really something special.

This one has gone audiophile mainstream for awhile but it really sounds unreal with a very incisive system. They lose the plot at the end but still one of my favorite to demo my speakers to friends.

Please share your favorite performances here!

Joni Mitchell's "Shadows and Light" live concert back in 1979. Arguably one of the finest group of musicians that ever played together on stage:

The Eric Clapton live stuff is seriously good. Better than the album counterparts (IMO). "Sunshine your Love" from Cream, but live and on steroids:

A change of pace to bring down the heart rate after the previous post.

If you can get the double LP, you owe it to yourself to do so.

One of the best renditions of this song ever. Not joking.

It's taken several glances at this thread for to realise that one didn't have to have been there, live recordings is fine .

But here's a couple of bands I really wish I'd actually seen...

The Grateful Dead, dozens of times instead of twice. But 2 is better than 0.

    The Doors.

    The Incredible String Band!

Not quite this thread's intention, but I wanted to share this short story. Most of my adult headphone/speaker/concert life has been spent in pursuit of recreating "that one perfect moment" from so long ago. It was a concert being held at the local concert call, a trio of Broadway singers with accompaniment from the orchestra. I don't remember the names of the two tenors (though they were very well regarded in their own rights), but the headliner was Jodi Benson (or Little Mermaid fame).

Anyhow, throughout the show they all did their songs they were well known for: Part of Your World, The Impossible Dream, a few from Phantom, etc, but the one that has stuck with me all these years was when they did a 3-voice Moon River. A very simple song, each voice doing one stanza, a duet here or there with the harmonies, I considered it more of a throwaway song between each of their big numbers, but then near the end they all chimed in sync, no harmony just straight octaves: Moon... River... <pause>
And in that pause I swear the entire audience was holding its collective breath. Three voices in perfect sync, perfect octaves. No hint of burr between notes that are so prevalent in regular music that the lack of it catches you off guard. We dared not interrupt... and that was it. The rest of the song was wonderful, but that fleeting moment was now gone.

Every concert I've been to since, every piece of gear that I've chased, it has all been in the search of recreating that moment. It is utter madness that I still try.

I would listen to Alison Krauss singing the dictionary. Pick any song from this concert.
