So a lot of us have noticed the absence of @Dino lately from the forums. I attempted to contact him through his personal email and followed up with a hand-written letter to his residence.

I finally got a response. Dean had a long battle with cancer and he passed away on June 5th. For whatever reason, he did not want a funeral or obituary. However I don't think that should keep us from remembering him here.

If you knew Dean in real life, please refrain from using his full name, otherwise any stories would be appreciated.

He will be missed here, by many.

*edit* - it takes time for me to process sad news.
I could always count on Dino to acknowledge any post I made, no matter how inconsequential it might be. That little thing helped me learn to be more deliberate in my posting habits and consider whether I was contributing or crapping in the forum.

Sad news indeed. I very much enjoyed my occasional PM chats with Dino on here. Rest in peace, mate, and condolences to family & friends.

I’m very sad to hear of Dino’s passing. I always enjoyed his posts and he added a lot to this forum’s culture. May his spirit soar through eternity.

Thanks for updating us. Horrible news, but silver lining that he's finally found some relief from his battle.

Dino has been and will always be one of my favorite SBAFers. Always cordial and respectful. One of my first experiences with him was me disliking one of his posts for petty reasons I can't remember now. Once I remembered it and tried to back it out, I was no longer able to. I apologized to Dino, who had already shrugged it off, and we chatted privately pretty frequently thereafter. As dumb as it seems, I'll always cherish that first dislike, which came from him. (link)

Dino also volunteered and spent a significant amount of time proofreading the HD650 compendium posts, including the tedious task of testing each and every hyperlink. Yet another example of the type of selfless person he was.

I also wanted to flag Dino's post in the HD650 speaker thread, where he discussed his Vandersteen 2Ci speakers. See: https://superbestaudiofriends.org/i...n-hd650-in-the-speaker-world.2979/#post-85227 (and a couple subsequent replies by purr1n). I've made a list of a few speakers I want to try in the coming months, and the new version of this classic is on it. It also happens to still be on Absolute Sound's 50 greatest bargains in high-end audio.

RIP my friend! You are dearly missed.

I've only spoken with him a few times on-site, but he was someone that I felt genuinely warm and eminently kind, even to total internet randos like me. Thank you for making an effort to reach out to his family, I think a lot of people noticed his conspicuous absence. He will be missed.

I'm sad he's gone but glad we now know what happened. I was just thinking of him the other day.

I didn't have any direct interaction with him, but sad to hear nonetheless. Rest in peace.

I will admit, I did not have much interaction with Dino, but the one time I did, he was a complete gentleman. He seemed like a very nice and genuine person.

This should serve as a reminder that RL happens beyond these screens. Hug your loved ones and cherish them and our time here on earth. RIP Dino.

@Dino helped me out when I got my own pair of 2ci. We had some good, private chats about them. His post actually pushed me to get them in the first place. I don't do serious speaker listening, but they've been great in my HT setup!

He will definitely be missed. Seemed like a great guy.
