I will have to apologize to everyone to not being around as much lately, not answering DMs, etc. I've been super busy at my RL job where we've gone into VC mode. It got to the point where my workspace got so messy with piles of stuff that I decided to take a half day to clean my home office. I realized that I shouldn't feel bad about doing this on the job because this is on the job time (not counting hours spend off-hours).

Because I am a cheapskate, I had been working on two plastic Walmart fold-up tables that I merged into one using wire ties. I had the intention to get a nice desk but never got around to it until now (almost two years). I didn't want anything fancy. Just a nice minimalist office quality desk that would be deep and wide enough to fit a 42" OLED with enough space to spare at the ends for two speaker monitors. I chose this: https://www.vari.com/table-60x30/TBL-6030.html

Normally I dread putting desks together. My experiences from putting furniture together from Walmart, Target, Amazon have never been great. One piece from Amazon with many positive reviews was a nightmare with metal parts, screws, and nuts so cheap that they deformed or bent. You know, the typical China-special garbage where the manufacturer contracts out fake reviews. The stuff from Target wasn't much better. Walmart is hit or miss.

So here I am getting ready, pulling out my mechanics tool set (I've since learned that power tools and China-special do not go well together), preparing ahead of time for the endeavor. Well what do you know? This was the simplest install ever! Not only that, but the packaging was superb. While these desks are made in China, they most certainly do not feel designed in China with a race toward the bottom. I guess these desks are "Designed by Vari in Coppell (Texas). Assembled in China."? :p

Here is the top of the desk flipped over showing the underside. At first I was scared with all the screw holes.

Note the smart minimal package without 2373 piece of styrofoams that typically comes with Amazon and Walmart furniture specials? Also note the steel ribs embedded into the desk to ensure that it will stay flat.

That is until I unpacked the other box that contained the legs and fit the legs over the underside of the top of the desk. Notice something? No tools needed! Included are eight screw twisty things. The legs don't come in 64 pieces that need further assembly with low grade bolts and screws. Everything is welded in place. LOL, the welds aren't the best done by someone super anal retentive, but they are good enough. Everything fits properly without the need to bend pieces because the tolerances are actually good here.

Here is the final piece with the slide on wire management box. My toolbox up top remains unopened.

Here is the packaging for the legs. Smart.

Here is the desk in my office. Excuse the mess - still under construction. I have to much crap lying around and I need to re-rack some stuff.

In hindsight I wish got the electric desk that can adjust between 25" and 50.5" because it's on sale right now. Maybe I will and give this desk to one of my kids.

Anyway, very highly recommended and the most pleasure experience I've had putting together a piece of furntiure.

I'm using the same thing except it's 60" x 24" in the reclaimed wood finish. It might be the best $600 I've ever spent.

Excellent desk! But be honest...you bought the desk for those headphone holders.

Vari also has height-adjustable desks. I have been using one made by Uplift and like it, always at standing height. Hope it helps with posture and neck/spine health.

Yeah. I like to stand up and pace during virtual meetings. I had forgotten about doing this because I had an adjustable height in the office before COVID. Vari also has a nice whiteboard, hmm.

    This looks decent.

I had to craft my own wooden table. The thing is.. I needed a table top 2.5m wide to have space for all my stuff with dual monitors + some audio. I cheaped out on it too. I didnt use the best material we had. The simplest way to diy table is get a hq table top from the hardware store and put some proper legs on it. Cant complain about the quality, right?

On a tangential note... I've been thinking of going with a ~50" instead of dual/triple monitors. Do you find the single big screen flows better? (very vague question I know)

Flows better, with the disadvantage of it being more difficult to naturally separate / dedicate windows to certain parts.

At my last job (10 employees), everyone got a VariDesk...the ones you put on top of an existing desk that you can use to raise and lower to sit or stand. I was always impressed by the quality for the price. Well recommended brand.

They also have a Desktop amp that you can use to remind yourself for sitting and standing throughout the day.

I have been toying with getting a real standing desk, spend far too much time sitting and blocking the sunshine..dB
