If you already have Hermes..you are better off using USB input as USB will provide you an option to use higher sampling rate as well in case you use HQPlayer etc if HQplayer is not in your use case then just get a pi4 powered with decent power supply and send data to Hermes which will clean it up.

Using Mercury to feed Hermes is just an overkill.

Because I'm looking for the best SQ end point I can find; I mentioned as much above. Not quite sure where the tetchiness is coming from. If the Mercury V2 can offer better SQ than a Pi I'm happy to buy it. I hope that clears it up for you?

I think we are just trying to save you some money. The Mercury and the Hermes do roughly the same thing on the output side so we are confused as to why you would even want both. Like @Biodegraded said, you could buy a Raspberry Pi (if you can find one reasonably priced) and use usb out to the Hermes. Or just buy a Mercury for an all-in-one solution.

Mercury is a Pi & DDC combined. Hermes is a DDC. If the Hermes is "just better" than the DDC part of Mercury because it uses OCXOs, why are you considering Mercury at all? Do you want to daisy-chain DDCs?

Thank you for taking the time to respond George. Do you mean the Iris with the Bitfrost 2/64 would be a killer combo, OR do you mean the Ares 12th Anniversary and Iris would be? I don't really want to buy an Iris as well.

Mercury also replaces the need for an upstream computer driving the USB, be it pi, a PC or a Mac. And unlike a pi, it is in a nice enclosure with the ability to add storage. :)

    Question for Mike Kelly
Can I ask you, which International shipping you use please? I am In Australia and of course because it's nearing Xmas freight numbers will be very high. Trying to work out whether my Mercury will arrive before then. Cheers

Is Mercury V2 in stock? Asking because it would be a great fit for a system I'm putting together, but because of complex travel I need to order it to arrive in specific places in the US within one week windows.

I just received shipment notification from my assembly house late yesterday (finally). I will receive the first units early next week and begin the testing asap. First shipment will start by the end of the week. We will need another 2-3 weeks to get to all the backorders. A new order now would ship after that.

    Update on Mercury V2 - 12/3/2022

Late yesterday our assembly house confirmed that the first units will ship to us Monday and arrive Wednesday. I trust this delivery date because they sent me some photos of the work in progress (they had a quick question on the orientation of a part). I could see that all the SMT was complete and they were just finishing the through hole. We hope to start shipping the first units by Friday/Saturday and to complete back orders by the end of the month. As always, your patience and understanding has made this much easier and is greatly appreciated.

Is it possible to turn off the wifi on the v2? I will be using ethernet to connect, and the placement of the unit would go next to a tube pre-amp I have that is very sensitive to antennas (have had to move my router bc it picks up feedback). Thanks

you can turn off Wifi and each OS will have its own way of doing it.
so depends on the OS you use in the Pi but each OS give an option to turn it off.

Boards are due to be delivered end of day today. I'll take some photos of the board itself and then some of the unit in the enclosure tomorrow.

Has anyone else had issues using on a corporate network? We use Cisco Meraki here, and I am having all kinds of difficulties. I have access to the Meraki and I don't see any settings that would block communications to the Pi. I can see the Airplay endpoint "Volumio", but it just won't play music. I have double checked the SPDIF cable, and all volumes.

Very frustrating as I'm having to use USB to my Modi Multibit since Schiit is too shitty to release a standalone Unison like Eitr. I guess they are wanting to sell more of the supposedly upcoming Modi Multibit 2 or 3 or + or whatever name they give it.

    Update on Mercury V2 - 12/9/2022
First unit has been built and tested. We should start shipping Monday/Tuesday. The only downside is that the boards require a bit of rework due to parts shortages. Those parts did not arrive in time for the assembly house to add them as we are doing that here. This will slow us down a bit, but we still think we'll get all the back orders out this month.
