random thought but I wonder if putting a weighted blanket on a speaker is similar to the effect of a sand filled baffle

    I had to google.

Back in the day when they were a thing (remind people who think that their name, address and phone number should be totally private) I used to use stacks of telephone directories as speaker stands.

For smaller, desktop, speakers, those three-inch thick books about programming languages I never learnt anyway, were good.

Paper is dense. And dead. Even a good book will never resonate!

Finally able to put together a dedicated 2 channel setup…

After finishing my basement this winter I have an actual space to make it happen for the first time. It was kicked off thanks to @SpeedSmith for upgrading his speakers so I could buy his sloppy seconds. Also @StageOne for reminding me how good a 2ch set up can sound!!

This is a joint duty room and designed as a home theater, so fully treated and decent size. 16.5ft x 24ft x 8ft.

    The Gear:
    Pi2AES -> Yggdrasil OG -> Freya + N -> Tyr -> Spatial M3 Turbo S Hologram

The timing worked out well to try the newest schiit gear which so far sounds amazing in my space.

I first heard these speakers back in RMAF 4 or 5 years ago and feel lucky to own what sparked my interest a long time ago!

I also picked up an AT-LP7 Turntable which has been a lot of fun to putz around with... Vinyl is dangerous....

I think you should fill half the room with audio-absorbent foam. Or, concrete, even.

Hmmm... looks like door is that end. Maybe a bouncy castle you can inflate and deflate? And bounce around in sometimes!

Update on my system with the subs I got last year:

Pi2aes -> Wavedream Edition -> EC AF -> Omega 3i's. The subs are Rythmik FM8's (dual 8") playing up to about 100hz. Would have liked to get the GR research paper driver 12" with class AB plate amp, but it physically won't fit!

With the subs this system has it all: microdynamics, spooky midrange, insane speed and full spectrum coverage. The no feedback SET rounds off the bass just the right amount, but the speed of the sub means it's still brutal, sounds like a very well adjusted dub sound system or Funktion One rig.

I put the dog bed on the floor between and in front of the speakers, just need to get a dog which is big enough. A chihuahua on the current bed would look stupid. And getting a smaller bed would be less effective and you might as well get a cat then.

I have updated my whole front speaker system during the summer.
    New subwoofers:
Faital pro 18xl1800 in 150 liters sealed cases.
    New front speakers:
A Celestion design: the CKT-TF1525e system. They are 15" bassdrivers with big horns and 1" compression drivers also in sealed cases of about 75 liters.

The frequency response is pretty bumpy, but the sheer effortlessness and lack of distortion make up for it.
Not familiar enough with horn design to really say how to smoothen out the frequency response yet , or why it look like it does.

That room looks awesome. Is it a converted attic? With that center channel I assume you have a projector with an acoustically transparent screen

Edit: actually I see a TV above the speakers. Do you really use that? :D

Yes. It's an attic, that is open on one side.
I do use a acoustically transparent screen.
Here you can see the what it looks like with the screen up. That what looks like a TV is actually a window, that I blocked out.

It can, but since I have a wooden house with a open floorplan its pretty hard to pressurize.

This is my modest nearfield listening setup, a slightly outdated pic. Next up for me is getting some room treatment, and room correcting my speakers.

I’ve been curious if this kind of speaker is appropriate nearfield over standmounts. Like can any bookshelf be used nearfield?

If the horn covers a really wide range and the woofer is to augment the bass a bit, seems like it could work

A lot of people like the jbl 530's as desktop/near-field speakers, they're considered stand mounters. Not sure if you're familiar with these, but they're a pretty traditional two-way design, albeit I believe both drivers are technically horns. They go like 60hz-15/16khz +-3db anechoic.

As for using speakers in the near-field: afaik, the largest concern exclusive to the nearfield has to do with the proximity of the midrange/mid-woofer driver and tweeters, as coherence between the drivers is affected at high frequencies when you're quite close to the speaker.
