I went there now only for Baldr's posts.

In any case, it's a good site, similar to the New York Post.

Heh, it's funny to see another post about Jaben.Indo and their marketing blabbering here. Well not like folks in Indonesia got much choice of store for headphone and stuffs anyway.

I'm gradually unsubscribing from most threads. Still reading the Schiit ebook. So glad to have this place that's grounded in irreverent reality.

I don't remember the last time I logged into my Head-Fi account. I think I made 100 posts on there at some point, but I wasn't really a prolific poster (for the same reason that I'm not here. I just don't feel that I have much to contribute). I don't have a huge problem with Head-Fi. It's nice for press releases and things like that, and the deals thread was pretty cool. I didn't like how threads would be locked at the drop of a hat though. Too much discussion of the deals in the deals thread? Locked. Someone has a less-than-favorable impression of a product and upsets those who do like it? Locked. I prefer the more laid-back atmosphere of this forum (and the old forum), so there's no reason for me to go back there. I can't keep up with the fast pace of that place.

I definitely still visit Head-Fi, specially since I just joined here today. I admit, I enjoy having a good circlejerk in the Grado thread, listening to other members blather and argue, Schiit Happened, and watching Baldr blast people to oblivion with his sciency posts. And hoping he posts a bit more in his story blog thread. TonyKaz is also a dorky nut who types a lot more like a 15 year old than an adult, but he has funny things to say. And every thread NoMax makes is hilarious. There's so much Head-Fi has to offer, even if it's just entertainment.

Hey, could you elaborate about the Violectric part? Both parts, really (why gloat, why not here)?

Also, sorry if this is OT; I'm new in this neck of the woods and haven't yet found out if there's a way to PM someone. Carry on.

Agreed, I lurk both places, I'm posting here more lately. But headfi is great for meetups and finding more local people, both have tons of information, I can see value in both places. SBAF's culture feels more in line with my thoughts on audio though.

I do but, it mainly google "Baldr" and "Jason Stoddard" and take a quick peek through the classifieds and if i want rumors, that the place to go.

The place seems kind of dead now tbh, the classifieds are getting old, many of the threads seem dead other than a few like the Noble and Schiit ones.

Just a couple days ago, i did some analysis on the traffic to headfi, and it seems that the traffic have been on a downward trend for awhile.

    Yes, I still visit Head-Fi.

I still enjoy Jason's and Mike's postings in the "Schiit Happened" thread. I don't find much useful stuff beyond that, though.

I spend quite a bit of time on both. But I'll never let a hype train at Head Fi sway my buying decision, unless its confirmed a good choice here too.

    Take the HD800s for example...

I don't log in at Head-Fi. I think I stopped logging in back in 2011. Maybe it was 2012. I read stuff on there two to three times a year.

I was once very active over there but I got "handled" by Currawong and then Jude and I had a tit-for-tat thing. I was clearly losing the battle, so I did some self-examination and decided that I hadn't made any progress in my hobby through Head-Fi, but rather through other places. I opened up notepad, hit a bunch of stuff on the keyboard, copied it in as my new password at Head-Fi. Now, if I want to post anything, I'll have to go through the forgot password steps. So far it's been just enough of a barrier to keep me from jumping back in over there.

I'm not sure I visited Head-Fi this year since early spring until the new Shure KSE1500 that just hit. I watched Jude's video on it and didn't bother with the threads. I also checked out the HD800S stuff for a second.

Removed the gloat from my original post, that was not really the appropriate word to use, but meant as tongue in the cheek. Changstar was pretty much unanimous in its dislike for Violectric amplifiers for their overly warm sound, lack of resolving ability and generally not good value for money with which I concur.

I own the V100 and have pretty much a love/hate relationship with it, though I'm saving up funds for a suitable replacement. The amp is well constructed and versatile, but ultimately fails on sound quality and value for money. Unfortunately I bought the amp before discovering the Pyrates and their sensibilities.

The Big Sound experiment was also telling with how few compliments the V281 garnered from participants. That tells me that there is a disconnect between the objectivity of owners on places such as Head-Fi and reviewers and those that know what to look for in good quality gear.

As always it's good to try out gear and build on your own experiences.

    In a nutshell...this!!!

And you are right...there are still some good guys (Joker, Clieos and the like) over there.

What a glorious sight it would be if all of them left and all that remained was Jude and his Gestapo administrators...wondering, "were the hell is everybody?".

i came here because i want the choice to say anything i truly think.... I am not an expert, nor a newbi,.... For example i feel that here i can say my own truth more than anywhere after reading posts and forums here.... Example of some non commercial, non hype truth, i had the Fostex TH-7B and i think that this headphone for 60 dollars beat some more expansive headphone you throw at it , he is not the better , no, but what it does it does very well with a good amplifier....But the truth is there is no crowd around a weird looking 60 dollars headphone.... My prefered headphone for now is the he 400 though, but i enjoy the Fostex also...best regards to all

So I decided to post in the metal thread for fun. Wrote a rant basically saying metal sounds like shit, has major high end problems due to poor and haphazard percussion micing, and actually not much extremely low subbass actually on the recordings so the HD 650 is the cleanest/least offensive I've found compared to monitor speakers and the TOTL headphones are sidegrades due to various issues, tradeoffs, and the quality of the genre's recordings. Get told my experience is invalid by some asshole who listens to emo and nu-metal with a DT 990 as when I listen to headphones on a computer, I use the Schiit Uber stack now.

Why do you even bother? Head Fi is no place for any sort of critical thinking these days. The slightest hint of negativity gets instantly combated with the usual "your gear is not high end enough" bullshit. It´s like a cult really. The user you mentioned also listens via balanced 990s and a Violectric HPA V181. LOL money well spent i guess?
