It doesn't work, you can't short together the negative rails of the balanced output like that.

    You can do
Headphones -> balanced connector -> Balanced-to-single ended adaptor -> single ended amp

    But you can't do
Headphones -> single ended connector -> single ended to balanced adaptor -> balanced amp

Ugh, that looks like the goto cable... 80 bucks and people are saying they break in less than a year...

    I'm considering this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/47-Labs-Lab...s-/232035532167?&_trksid=p2056016.m2516.l5255

also researching neutrik xls stuff, and looking around for HD6xx or HD8xx headphone side termination connectors

    to build 'em

    Looks ok, at least interesting:

Could you take some pictures and make some comments on it? I am really digging the imperial red and black to match the rest of my setup.

If you're handy with a soldering iron you can get one of these:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0028PGXRE/ref=s9_dcacsd_bhz_bw_c_x_1

A male Neutrik 4 pin XLR for $5 gold plated, and a female Neutrik 4 pin XLR gold plated for another $5, shipped free from Markertek, and have a balanced cable plus a 1/4" pigtail to use on SE amps for a little over $30.

Do NOT do this. Balanced output from amp to single ended headphone adapter is a NO NO. Single ended output from amp to balanced headphone cable is fine.

I cannot seem to find the HD650 balanced cable DIY thread. I want to get a replacement HD650 cable and mod it. My question is simply, are these good connectors, or are there other ones that are recommended? http://www.neutrik.com/en/xlr/xx-series/nc4mxx-b Thanks!

To answer your question, yes that is a good connector. If you want to feel fancy about yourself you can get these:

Awesome. Thank you! Somehow I was under the impression there's a specific thread for HD6xx balanced cables.
Thanks for the fancy connectors. They look real nice. I'll stick with the Neutrik ones though. I'll probably be modifying two cables (depending on how things) and using the female version to go back to SE.

Am done...found sealing two of the four paper covered ports on the back of the magnet housing creates a perfect blend of tight slamming musical bass that is quite seamlessly integrated into the rest of the frequency response. Did it on a diagonal line from top to bottom. Bottom front port sealed and top back port. Mirrored on the opposite side. Not quite as punchy or tighy as all ports sealed...but a more even balance and more tuneful sound than doing it all or none closed! Amazing...WoW! Visceral resonant extended! So consistent and musical top to bottom with huge, deep, layered 3D staging! PRAT as good as anything I have heard...maybe better! Wonderful detail and Dynamics! They work effortlessly on the Neco V5!

Need a Torpedo 3 vs V5 comparison to consider if I want to go there!

    Happy listening

Is there anybody here, who thinks, the STOCK version of the HD650 sounded better, than any modded versions.? ;)
