Out of curiosity, has anyone tried the MJ2 with CIEMs, particularly the UERM?

I tried it briefly with my newly reshelled 1964 v6. There was a bit of a noise floor at any volume, it didn't change with volume knob movement, was just constant. It wasn't super noticeable with music playing but not ideal and I was disappointed. This is with tubes and a Gungnir Multibit

Hmm... that's kind of disappointing. Low gain/impedance right? The specs make it seem like it would work for ciems, aside from the 8w into 32ohms.

Yes correct. I have not tried any other iems in it though, so idk. I can try this weekend, but idk what that would tell you,and my others are all dynamic drivers. No noise with these ciems out of a phone or oppo ha2. Also no noise out of mjolnir 2 with any full sized headphones, even easy to drive ones

    1. have been VERY happy with moving HD800 to work rig with Mjo2 tubes (modi2uber) while awaiting Gungnir Multibit arrival which happens Tuesday.
HD800 was at home for months with Yggdrasil and Black Widow, but eventually the HE1K won out at home on this set up for a bit more bass, body and musical listening experience for a lot of modern (poor) recorded music in my collection.
took the HD800 to work with Mjo2 and enjoy the soundstage, detail and quality - yet with frequent breaks (work distractions) never get the same ear music fatigue after listening. so far the Mjo2 tubes have been French RTC E188CC, but may toss in either Amperex 7308 or Siemens CCa A-frames for grins soon.
really have no desire to put the LISST in with HD800 connected.

    2. haven't plugged my CIEM Heir Audio 4.AiS into Mjo2 (tubes with modi2uber) yet but can on Monday or Tuesday. I'm suspecting the same noise floor issues as PoochZag. more soon.

Just wanted to follow up with my MSR7's also show a similar noise floor, that IS dependent on the volume knob. However now that I have music playing I can't hear the noise during quieter parts of the music, where I think I still could with the cIEMS. I'll also note that the stock tubes floor is worse than the Vokhshod rockets I have.

I'm a little disappointed, as I've previously only used my Mjolnir 2 with Ether/AlphaDog/HE-500/r70x and those are all whisper quiet. I'm a tad bit worried it may be there on the THx00 but we'll see

Edit: After a few more minutes the floor on the MSR7 is really close to gone. Can't explain why, maybe because of the tube swap I made before testing them this morning? My observations on the cIEMS stand tho unfortunately, there was no tube swap or amp warmup involved on that day

Are you guys using the single output for the CIEMs? or the balanced one? it might be the summing circuit that is providing the noise, whereas maybe the "Native" balanced output wouldn't have it?

When I tried my cIEMS (1964 v6) in the mjolnir 2 it was through the single ended with tubes. I don't have a way to try balanced.

It's possible my particular pair are hyper sensitive as I get a smaller amount of hiss from the HA-2 as well. I don't have another BA pair to try in the mjolnir 2 tho

Newb question maybe, but if I bought the Mjo2 and ran balanced cables from my Gungnir Multibit, would I also need balanced cables on my HD650?

You don't "need" it, but it's highly recommended if you want to take full advantage of what the mj2 has to offer.

If you don't want to use the balanced connection on the mjo2 you might as well get lyr2 and save some money. Mjo 2 is a circlotron amp and is really made to be used balanced, the single ended is there for the sake of utility mostly.

Is it worth using a Gungnir Multibit with Lyr 2?

For me, it's partly a cost or really a value decision. My home setup (Gungnir Multibit > Asgard 2 > HD650) is lacking in the warmth dept, and I'm exploring how I can fix that while also hopefully taking more advantage of the capabilities of the Gungnir Multibit. ATM, I'm favoring the Mjo2 as my next amp which seems like it would be a sensible pairing, but I'm also considering the overall system cost - like how much I would spend to buy decent balanced cables for my HD650. If it's not a big SQ difference going that route, I'd probably save the money and go Val2 or Lyr2.

    Thoughts?

Lyr 2 is the better bet if you're going to keep your headphones single ended. If you want to switch all your headphones to balanced (and maybe your DAC as well) that is when Mjolnir 2 becomes ideal.

Would it kill you to read around this site or others before posting your questions? All your questions have been fairly generic and lacking in content. As I said on the other thread, please post some background information to go with your question.

Balanced cables don't need to cost that much, decent options can easily be found for less than $100. Honestly, if you are a curious sort, take the $150+ you would pay some cable maker for fancy cables, buy a good soldering station, some solder, some flux, and a neutrik 4 pin xlr jack. reterminate the stock cable yourself. Then the next cable job you come up against will be measured in parts cost only.

Balanced mjo2 is really great for the 650, but if you don't care so much about balanced, save the money and get a Valhalla 2 or project ember or the like. I have the mjo2, but I need the balanced pre outs for speakers (and I reterminated my 650s).

So I messaged Nick and while the Vali 2 can handle the extra current of the 6n1p the Mjolnir 2 cannot. I guess the Valhalla 2 and the Vali 2 use unregulated heater supplies? That must be the difference.
