Going to start cutting off heads, prefaced with only two sentences of explanation. Dreyka was essentially a non-contributor who couldn't stop repeating himself. Yeah, we do the subjective... So what?

Some people just don't understand, can't handle, or don't thrive with the sort of balance in the force we provide at SBAF. And, plus, it's usually a mixture of taking themselves or their life too seriously. Or not seriously enough...

Or maybe we're just weird? I wouldn't have it any other way.

Sounds like I need to dig through the sub then. For the few times I visited there, I saw a lot of people defending their headphones without much reason/data/whatever to back it up. But some did try to clear up the X2 older/newer version mystery.

To be fair, most of those regulars are already starting to migrate, or have already migrated over here :)

That's actually not a bad idea, but probably in a new thread. I am done with trying to skim through 1000 page threads. Guess I used to have that kind of energy, now I am feeling my age...

QFT - this place is becoming as junky as Head-Fi but in a different way in some threads. And same as reddit. Too much miniature cock swinging over stupid/insipid debates (Oh! I hope everyone throws an ABX test at everything! Cause that would be great! Then it'll be irrefutably decided that HD600s are better than HD650s!!!!).

I'm new to the world of audio but very picky, so I'm trying to avoid losing my mind.

Trying to educate myself on Head-Fi nearly gave me an aneurysm.
The site is never ending product listings with first posts that are basically advertisements and then hundreds of pages of useless replies.
I suppose this is where rich people lose their shit and just start buying everything to figure out what's good.
Searching r/headphones and these forums has been quite helpful, feels like progress.

I discovered the whole nwavguy/schiit thing which is where I stopped trying to learn anything from Head-Fi, it's a dictatorship.
I'm surprised Schiit is highly regarded here, since they had a product on the market that was destroying headphones.
One would think there must be more competent alternatives that would notice such a major issue during production.

Though I suppose Samsung still makes great phones even though they've also made ones that explode...
I typically boycott companies after such colossal failures, but currently I somehow find myself considering the M2U stack and I feel like a fool because of it.
I've yet to see the light of Schiit and how they've redeemed themselves like everyone else seemingly has, must have missed that part.

Not trying to start any fights, this has just been what I've seen since I've dived in the past week, just sharing my experience and impressions.
I'd probably get banned posting this on Head-Fi, lets see how free speech works here :p

@Hunched, you make it sound like Schiit put out the f'ing Pintos. Either you are trolling or don't know what you are talking about. If it's the latter, then do so more research, if it's the former, go away.

"Free speech" is a citizen/government concern and not a citizen-to-citizen/private-enterprise concern. Did you fail elementary-school civics? Or were the concepts just too complicated for you?

Free speech does not exist on private property except at the behest of the property owner. Assumptions to the contrary have a nasty habit of backfiring on those that fail to comprehend this.

Hunched really should have lurked some more and then properly introduced himself before making a post like that, but we all know what he meant when he said 'free speech.'

I don't believe there was any reliable evidence that any headphones were destroyed. Just a YouTube video of a K701 driver experiencing DC during a power off cycle with one of their amps. Sure, there was the potential of driver destruction, but drivers tend to be pretty robust. Evidently you haven't read the design changes (relays on timers) that Schiit made to guarantee absolutely zero chance of headphone failure during on/off cycles.

If you believe there is "free speech" here, you are gravely mistaken. Stupidity, misinformation, disrespect to or lack of deference to the established members has consequences.

You got the "ABX test" thrown at you because you brought up a "snake oil" type product. I'm not saying it doesn't work - I'm open to the fact that it might (I both believe in and don't in believe in cables), but it's probably best to avoid bringing up fringe sundry accessories until you build up some street cred. Ultimately, your writing skill in being able to convey your thoughts carry more weight than anything else.

If it's not working out, and this place is too junky for you, I'd be happy to refund your donation and virtually decapitate you so your existence in the Matrix is no more. It usually takes two parties to make a place junky.

Which is awesome. Moderation is not heavy-handed, but also not non-existent. Seems like a lot of effort is given to maintaining a good balance. An effort well appreciated.

I still visit HF, but in pretty limited doses and a few sections of the site (sound science, and a few others). There is still a lot of knowledge to be dredged up and many good members. You just need a good filter. :)

So far I'm really liking the community here.

Free speech? Well there is a consensus here that you cannot say everything because this little forum is about the audio hobby. Therefore we focus on that, the audio hobby.

Also manufacturers make mistakes and (luckily) sometimes correct them. Schiit went one step further and said "yeah, if you want your amplifier fixed send it to us" and explained their reasons. Schiit is known for its honesty and quality control. Their components can sound exceptional (Serious' HD800M system for instance).

If you want to provoke us fine. Please avoid the B.S. and let Hype-Fi be Hype-Fi. This is S.B.A.F. and we are a weird bunch with our subjective impressions, FR-measurements, CSD-plots and "Golden Schlong awards."
