With SpinFits, super shallow fit, DPX1 stock settings, no EQ. Impressions follow.

    - Shallow, intimate "club" like staging and imaging
    -DD timbre correctness
    - Obviously less plankton than Andromeda
    - Bassier than TH900
    - Overall smooth
    - Uber fast DD
    - Has bass extension, midbass texture, but lacking subbass texture
    - Midrange slightly fuller than Andromeda
    - Lacking last bit of air vs Andromeda
    - Ringing in EX1000 was pushed up maybe 1-2khz upwards, resulting in occassionally non-revealing-but-rather-fucked-up kind of treble bite
    - TOTL material, but not bloody 1700CAD

Just wordage interpretation differences. Complement implying a full set: Andro (fast, precise, neutral) and Lyra (fuller, textured) - the "un-Andromeda" (as I previously indicated) - making the set complete. For example, I don't see the UERM, Deca, and Andromeda, all very good BA IEMs with similar techicalities, but with a different take, as full set I'd like to bring on a sixteen hour flight from LAX to CDG.

Ok, but once HRC is elected and the TSA mandates you can only carry 1 pair of IEMs aboard, what do you take?

I found overnight burn-in, subsequent tip rolling / adjustment, and acclimatization to help with the sibilance and bass - the bass seemed ill-defined, slow, and horribad upon first listen. The sharpness / sibilance is still an issue with me. A deeper insertion with smaller tips did not yield good results: way too bassy. I couldn't even listen to anything on k.d. Lang's Hymns of the 49th Parallel. The upright bass was too much! I didn't like the included Spinfits - they didn't help with the treble - made it worse in fact.

I suspect you might find the diamond timbre of the Vega disconcerting. The Lyra 2 is not like that, but still pretty fast with the Be. The Be timbre of the Lyra does remind me a bit of the Utopia, which I know you have no problem with. The bass might be an issue for you, but again, I found a way that with the large Comply and wearing them more shallow and looser. These will go on tour very soon.

Andromeda. All hail the Supreme Commander Servalan!

I don't believe burn-in and even if burn-in helps my listed problems are unlikely to be changed.

FWIW I can't help but think Vega is a bassier K10 with some technicalities fixed. And I do prefer a leaner, "elegant" kind of presentation.

No EQ. It's not about a particular FQ is missing or being too much.

    The manufacturer recommends it.

Funny you should say that. I sold my K10s because of Vegas. Although, I have to disagree, the Vegas are better in every way. I actually want to listen to them. K10s, not so much.

Hmm, I don't think it's any particular segment of frequency being problematic. It's bassy and it doesn't leave me feeling things are masked or there was bleeding. Nor did I feel there was consistant treble spikes. The problem was rather ringing. Bells at the end of Sheffield Labs Ride of Valkyrie left my ears uncomfortable. Excessive end tail cues and piercing.

Is that still the case? I'm having some trouble reconciling this statement with Griffon's "uber fast DD" bullet point. Was it the decay of the sub bass that gave you that impression?

I hear a bit of that, even after EQ.

By uber fast I mean the speed of Vega is closer to Andromeda than to EX1000.
Yes Captain, that pretty much veto'ed Vega's 1400US pricetag to me. Put it in between Jupiter and Andromeda and we're talking.
