I'm trying to remember the name of this old speaker... it looks a little bit like a console/dresser, but had two spheres on the ends. Very rare...

For those who do post porn, could you include the name of the performer and the price tag. If someone does get an itch, they should at least know what they're getting into...

I have only a vague memory that I might once have heard these once, friend's father's place, early 70s, not even sure. I'm sure many members have, and maybe some even own them right now. Might not be the most exotic thing in the thread, but the idea of these turns me on...

    Needing no introduction:

I got to hear a stacked pair of Quad ESL 57 (not sure if they had the 57 designation back then) at a dealer, back when I was a teen in the 70s. They made an impression on me. Not really Rock speakers and had a really narrow sweet spot, but otherwise... wow.

They were in lovely black grille coverings.

Also heard these in the 70s with Linn Sondek deck and meridian amp, music was Gilbert & Sullivan which is not my scene but the vocals and sense of being there still stays with me after all these years.

I have decided what would be my home theater centerpiece after seeing this awesomeness.

(Edit by @ultrabike: fixed that for you Alex. Awesome setup!)

Thanks a lot Gilberto. Unfortunately this system sounds just ok, acceptable for movies and parties but not really suitable for serious music, all despite many years spent on tuning. The room itself is so terrible, no matter what I did, the end result for me is still not satisfactory. My fight with that room is what brought me into audio big time.

Even though it looks quite stunning, this system actually is much more than what simply meets the eye. Main speakers are my heavily modified Infinity Kappa 9s ( stiffened enclosures, different inner damping, new 3 way crossovers, fully active with DSP control). Developed some 30 years ago in concept hese are quite similar to latest designs by mr. Linkwitz. Being pretty much open baffle from midrange to the top, but unlike Orion's these have sealed LF enclosures. 14 drivers total for both channels.

Center channel is extremely important for the home theater, therefore I decided to run a pair of heavily modified Infinity Kappa 6s in parallel for it (new crossovers, sealed enclosures with additional subwoofers built in, fully active with DSP control). 8 drivers total for the center.

Rear channels, are heavily modified Infinity Kappa 8s (completely revorked enclosures, new damping, new crossovers, fully active and DSP controlled). 10 drivers total for left and right rears. Modern Sonus Faber Stradivari's in comparison with these may look like a cheap knock offs.

Three subwoofers located one dual 8" in a center and two 12" in the back. All cusom made, fully active and DSP controlled.

Whole system takes 16 channels of amplification (six for main left and right, three for subwoofers, three for center and four for left and right rears) 250 watts per channel for a total of 4000 watts into 8 Ohm loads. Another 2 channels and 500 watts of power are dedicated for buttkickers custom built into furniture.

Controll is done fully in digital domain by three DSP processors (each manages six channels for a total of 18). Modified OPPO blu ray player outputs 6 digital channels via 3 SPDIF outs.

Basically each and every one of 36 drivers in this system work in perfect sync with the rest in frequency, time, and phase domains, all aligned to the main listening position. It took me almost 5 years to create custom DSP filters for each of 18 channels. If this isn't enough, all had to be kept in in perfect sync with video.

As a result movies sound great, disco parties blow everyone's minds, 5.1 video concerts sound pretty good, though pretty much all those recordings suck, true reference stereo recordings sound fairly decent but very far from what I personally would call realistic so I pretty much never listen to music on this system.
