For my own purposes, I didn't get any convenience out of auto return. When the record side was finished, I either needed to turn the record over, put on another record, or put the record(s) up, anyway.
@Thad E Ginathom...you are correct, purists don't believe in auto return. I am no purist. And if done right, it will not interfere. I am just lazy and don't want to wear out my stylus sitting there spinning in the runout groove.

At least, the arm should lift off the record: the rest is optional. I have a feeling that the music listening of today is somehow more intense, deeper, more involved, than the digital world we will inhabit in the future....
