I used to have one SHP9500. Great driver, great sound, mediocre plastic build quality. Go with the HD600 for reliability and Sennheiser support. Philips fucked this one up because when it breaks, try fixing it...
@Deep Funk My worries too. Will get HD600 one day, incredibly hard to find 2nd hand here tho. I still have to give a proper chance to Linear II for mixing, have to fix some things on my laptop and give them a proper acclimatization and run. If I succeed with them, I might abandon the whole idea of getting other headphones until I earn some solid amount of money.
@Hands
Found that later today. Seems quite odd and not really good sounding. I don't like heavy deeps in upper midrange (I don't like heavy deeps in general), it just sucks out the detals.
What impressed me initially was FR on Golden Ears. Pretty different than Solderdude's. Variation in product? Maybe, tho it seems too much of a difference to be that.
Honestly, I don't usually trust hype on budget headphones. I've heard it before. The fact of the matter is that it's pretty damn hard to find headphones that match the balanced response and resolution of the HD6X0, and this wouldn't be the first budget headphone I've seen touted as competitive.
Been down the same road. Just save up for the HD6X0 and build gear around it.
@Hands There are so few good and neutral low/mid tier headphones, and after listening to LCD-3 recently I just made a conclusion how little headphones improve after some price. I mean, they sound wonderful, but not 2000$ wonderful, so I realized why many consider HD6x0 if not end game, sufficient. (Yet I have to hear them yet).
