I’ve never been tested, but I feel like I might have this. I’ve often thought that certain instruments and voices sound off-center.

Same boat as Mellow. I often hear vocals just sliiiiightly left of center.

I always felt my left ear has better hearing than my right but never did any real tests.

Yep, everything seems like it's centered slightly to the right.

I'd guess that everyone has unbalanced ears. We compensate for sounds in the real world, but headphones cause location changes we aren't adjusted for. Losing left ear hearing (allergies) for two weeks really brought this into focus. For a week or so, my ears were equal. Then my left ear went ahead and got even better than my right. If I need to focus though, I can pressure-equalize to bring them pretty close.

I'm a little left-centred but not sure if that's frequency-based or right-side hearing loss. My left ear canal is tortuous compared to right, which makes fitting IEMs unpredictable.

Although tests indicate no significant difference...

@Biodegraded I have the same problem with IEMs; no trouble getting a good fit in my left ear but my right ear canal likes to spit everything out. Quite possibly the shape difference is what gives them a slightly different frequency response

My left ear is a tiny bit better than my right just in terms of volume and overall hearing capacity. I had shit tons of trouble with my ears as a kid, couple operations on them, as a result I have tinnitus too. Such a whore. I guess being a drummer doesn't help (even though I take massive steps to protect my hearing...) It is what it is I suppose ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I've wired my ears to my brain with 99.999999998% pure japanese OCC copper, made by shaolin monks in a rice farm to prevent such phenomenon, beautiful audiophool logic!

Does being able to see your nose drive you bonkers?

Give your brain a chance: it can make everything right for you. Otherwise, you need a balance control. They are for ears as much as rooms.

And, how do you know the vocalist was dead centre anyway?

@Thad E Ginathom it's the same deal if I switch to mono. for awhile I was convinced it was a series of poorly balanced headphones, but when I flipped the headphones on my head and the vocals still leaned the same direction I knew something was awry...

You can get test tones that play dead centre as well.

Speaker amps: the balance control. I can see why this might be thought unnecessary on a headphone amp, and I guess they are rare. Pandering to the idea that the buyers all have perfect and perfectly-matched ears :(

If it bother you enough, and your source is a PC... do it in software.
