This would depend largely by country.

Is it common even the the US?

I’m sure it’s very common in the US to buy audio equipment on credit card just like all big purchases. So many people are drowning in debt.

I have a Koss PortaPro and HD600. Tubes though, you will always need spare tubes...

Don't see anything wrong with taking advantage of 0% offers such as PayPal Credit, as long as you know you have the funds to pay it off in time to avoid interest charges. Done that a few times.

I'm talking about short-term (6 month) 0%, for non-trivial purchases through merchants that participate with PayPal Credit.

Well I agree there. I buy all my expenses with credit card and pay it back immediately for flight perks.
I just think if you are buying stuff you can't afford at that moment on credit, it is a terrible decision. Even if you're only a month away. Just save. Else you will always be living paycheck to paycheck

As a rule I don't pull the trigger unless I've got the amount I could pay upfront, but don't see the harm in spreading it out without interest on a short term. Probably not the best approach, but I certainly don't live paycheck to paycheck. But it's a good point you make in general.
