There's companies that do both hearing aids and high end IEMs, like Westone. I would probably trust them to make something when I'm older.

Quick question, do you wear them while listening to your HD800s?

There's an audiologist here in Vienna (Austria), who specializes in hearing aids and IEMs for professional musicians:

I'm not a customer, but having talked to her on several occasions, I regard her as very competent and helpful. Maybe you can contact her, ask what she does, and then see if you can find someone with similar expertise in your country?

Well, it would be good to be in Vienna, maybe! But I have what I have, which is a pair of aids made by Starkey, who, I understand to be one of the major hearing-aid manufacturers, as recommended by a local audiologist, and as available just now at about 75% discount. That is at the price of about 1 HD800 (for the two)!

Had them for about three days. The current tuning is initial, and will go back after two weeks of my brain getting used to an entirely different "Life background noise" setting. I'm listening to my cuckoo clock ticking on the other side of the room. I don't remember it ticking at all! But of course it should: real clockwork with a real pendulum.

With the HD800s? An initial trial suggests use without aids, as the aids may reveal some more sounds, but they make it sound like a cheapy thing.

Haha! Was a joke, to be honest. I'm wondering, once you get the tuning done right, whether the famous treble on there might bother you. Good luck though! Do keep us up to date :)

new tech is to install a direct electrode into the temporal cortex. hope to do it in the future. I will order a USB-c in my occipital cortex if they give me a discount.

Maybe stemcells could work too in the future, they can do some crazy stuff already...

@Riotvan I remember reading that people have already attempted using stem cells to reconstruct damaged hair cells. Comes with a risk of cancer though.

yes, for now, stem cells only work for simple organs

And I still prefer the electrode with a USB-c port in my brain

I find stem cells to have wonky treble anyway
