Thankfully I have an extremely supportive wife with a very successful career in Health & Safety. Due to my weight and scoliosis my spine is degenerating quickly, so I have to bust ass for a while and try to lose quite a bit of weight if I want to be able to walk in 10 years.
Cycling is good (said the cyclist). But it shouldn't be all of your activity, it is not weight bearing in the way walking is. Even pro cyclists who did many thousands of miles year after year have been found to have higher-than-normal osteoporosis. Mix it up as best you can
Thanks @ergopower, I'm looking forward to walking more again as well. When I was a manager at Lowe's I walked 10+ miles per day and that was only a few years back.
@LetMeBeFrank I had to drop some weight a while back. Found a book by Mark Bitman. Basically I was a vegetarian during the day and ate whatever I wanted for dinner. Dropped about 30 pounds in three months. Felt great, never felt starving. P.M. me if you want more info.
