Interesting, the first gen was *terrible*- a totally wank scroll wheel, a UI that looked like it was knocked up in an afternoon and rather boring sound. It felt like something half-finished for all the potential. Have they finally shipped the DAP that it should have been?
I don't think the scroll wheel has changed, its running a Hiby produced/derived firmware/UX. New chipset though ... 4490 in the new one vs. CS4398 (bleh) in the original.
Good news on the DAC, for those not allergic to 4490 "velvet sound". Surely the scroll wheel must have changed, though, as you aren't swearing profusely.
Well, it's a mechanical wheel, with some play/rattle in the mechanism; a bit at odds with the rest of the build. Tone is nice, good detail, very fast with excellent dynamics. Hiss with sensitive, low-impedance, IEMs is at a higher level than works for me, however. An iEMatch fixes that, completely, but is obviously not a match with all IEMs.
Yeah, the wheel on the previous one wasn't just prone to rattling, though, it was almost unusable, producing incredibly inconsistent input on many units. It was the standout "nope" that should never have shipped in that state. You'd have noticed if it still did that.
Well, it all seems to work just fine. The wheel responds as I would expect it to, with tactile feedback on top of it. And the four touch sensitive bits have adjustable sensitivity and haptic feedback. So it works as expected in that regard.
Good stuff, in the pre-WM1* days, I was considering the QPR1. Hopefully they can bring the fight to Sony and A+K in that segment if the market eventually.
