The new mono transfer is better than the 2009 CD, the Esher Demos are better than many artist’s completed albums.

Oh that’s really good to hear! I assumed it wouldn’t be worth it.

@DigMe The remix is dynamic, even more so on the Blu-Ray. Everything is very well mastered. I haven’t gone through the outtakes yet but I’m sure there’s gold in there too.

Thanks for this. Guess I’ll pick it up at some point. What did you think of the separate Sgt. Pepper release a while back?

@zonto Poor mastering on the remix and I didn’t love all the remixing choices. Some of the vocals had a weird digital edge to them that turned me off. I hear the vinyl of that sounds more pleasing so I may have to hear that, but overall I wasn’t a fan.

That’s great to hear after the messy, overcompressed thing that the Sgt. Pepper re-mix was. Looks like Giles still compressed this one. But sounds like it didn’t hurt the presentation.

Sgt. Pepper remix was DR 8, WA on CD is DR 9, but on the Blu-Ray it’s DR 12.

@zonto Yes, AFAIK the mono on the Pepper and WA sets are flat transfers of the mono master tapes, so they are different from the 2009 CDs and 2014 vinyl.

I haven’t A/B’ed the 2009 and 2017 Pepper mono versions, but to my ears the new WA mono transfer is much better than the 2009.
