I don't have BWC, MZR, or IEMW and I don't feel distanced from those folks. I actually like it because if I have questions about measurements, low end in a 2 channel setup, or IEMs, then I'll know better who to seek that advice from. It seemed helpful to me. Just my 2 cents.
Nope. Seems to me you have to put in some miles for these, they're earned by experience and go-do approach. Age, tenure, clique is not a deciding factor.
^What the above said (except maybe the new site thing in case that confuses other people). I've got a legit shit measurement rig I just use for testing front filters (for now), does that warrant an MZR? That aside I'm told it's impolite to swing a BWC around, so I'd rather refrain from doing so :)
Seems like more of an indication for those unfamiliar with all our members. More importantly; one should not attach their self-esteem to the opinions of random internet club owners ;)
Mm, any suggestions on how to achieve the same result without needing to resort to special banners? I dunno, this is efficient, and I don't believe very many people really mind. Could be wrong on that last count.
The first problem is the codes are pretty cryptic. By the time your been here long enough to figure them out, you don’t need to be tipped off as to who’s who. ...
Second problem is that virtue of audio gear is subjective. That subjectivity is a fundamental premise of the site. Neither the fact that a subset of admins agree with a person’s view, nor the sheer volume of reviews a person has done, is inherently worthwhile—For example,Rafe & Amir are not wizards (IMHO) despite their experience.
Granted, all the BWC jokes were clue enough, your first point is a valid one. Still, fully spelling em out might ruin the aesthetic :P
Granted all sound is subjective, but at the same time there are factors that can objectively determined through qualitative analysis. Sounds fucked, but until measurements get to the point where subjectives become pointless they're here to stay IMO
I'm pretty sure this has been repeated a few times on a few threads, but the members of the group who've been around longest do all tend to share sound preferences, sorta. I take Marv's impressions of "tolerable" treble with a mountain of salt, myself, but I don't find DT880s particularly offensive either. That's where the "calibrate others' impressions against your own" comes in.
Also, disagreeing with others is encouraged, so long as it's done nicely and can generate good discussion. Some people can be assholes and not receive sanctions, but eh, that's just nepotism— nothing anyone living in a democratic country wouldn't be familiar with.
