No, I didn't -- but I'm thinking of doing a post on it. It was the Gungnir Multibit. It, and apparently all Schiit Multibit DACs, have confirmed audible 3rd order harmonic distortion. That makes them a poor match for a certain group of people. Should I write up the details?
Hold up, where are you getting evidence that all Schiit MB DACs have audible, confirmed 3rd order distortion? I’m not saying you didn’t hear treble problems, but chalking it up to “confirmed” distortion seems a stretch. Don’t go looking for problems based on things you might have read.
I assume you have an SPDIF source to feed the older DACs? What is it if so? And did you use that to compare against USB equipped DACs? If you think the Schiit DACs have appreciable distortion, lawdy I hope you scrutinize your transport to no end at that rate.
@Hands. Confirmed in measurements made by both AtomicBob and by John Atkinson. I was going to reconfirm this with my QA401, but I sold it faster than expected.
No where do any of those measurements suggest audible levels of 3rd order distortion.
It’s OK to not like something, but let’s be real here and not start reaching.
Plus if you are twisting measurement results in such a way, I have no clue why you’d want to try the Adagio, which measures much worse. (Plus Pavane Lvl 2 or 3 will get same sound for less, unless you want the preamp part).
