Pads aside I now have a better idea of what an Eikon sounds like because I've tried a shit ton of stuff to tweak the treble on these, including the use of more TP than most college age kids. Grazie :))

How's bass texture and staging compare though?

Staging is honestly similar. Eikon feels a little wider but I hear the HP3 as having a clearer center image. HP3 has this lovely bouncey bass, which is generally slightly louder than it is on Eikon. Eikon bass is a bit thicker but also tighter. Different flavor, similar quality level. HP3 excels with hip-hop with the extra sparkle on top and that thicc bouncy bass.

Modded HP3 honestly is just a mildly V-shaped Eikon. They are more alike than different. With mods on HP3 I'm not sure I'd consider Eikon stock a substantial enough improvement to be called an "upgrade". Stock @ MSRP, Eikon is the better buy. But used HP3 can be had for cheap, and mods are cheap too. Then it becomes competitive.

@Lyer25 you should really try pad rolling. Just use double-sided tape on the headphones themselves and smack the pads right on there. They'll stick and don't worry about the little bumps on the housing. The above impressions were using the ZMF Ori pads. The bass really is very club-like. Super duper satisfying with electronic and hip-hop. Eikon will always have a richer vocal and acoustic presentation though.

I'll take the HP3 home this week for more pad rolling + modding and report back. I really enjoy them TP + Ori though. I just kinda threw it together not expecting much but am thoroughly impressed. Easy to drive too, sounds good even from my phone.

Haha, I'll admit pad rolling is about the only way I've yet to dick around with the Klipsches! Not much spare cash to try new stuff out blindly since I'm currently a full time student, might have to sell some stuff off or get a part time job.

On that note, looking forward to your findings! And yup, the HP-3s are amazing for listening off one's phone in bed :))

The performance with vocals are about my only gripe with these really, but I'm hoping tweaking upstream gear could help with that when I get back to working on my system. I'll see what pads I can get my hands on for now and report back with findings! Might be cool to post your thoughts in the HP-3 thread just so it's easier to find maybe.
