There is no “Absolute Sound” just the one you either prefer, or perceive (falsely) is a perfect reproduction.

I must be in the minority that thinks studio albums are superior to live shows.

@Cspirou I also prefer Studio to live records 99% of the time.

Studio albums sound better, but attending concerts is more visceral. Preferences I guess. Live albums usually sound like crap compared to studio versions, but I prefer them sometimes for more interesting arrangements.

My preferred live sound reinforcement system is no system at all in a great acoustic space.

There is that live interaction that sometimes happens with the artist/audience that can't be replicated no matter how good the recording...it is a totally different experience from home listening, and not always worth it IMO depending on size of venue, acoustics etc. etc.

@atomicbob - symphonies and operas are the exception for me

Depends on the band for me, really. Mostly studio albums for me personally, but occasionally there'll just be a few live performances that have that bit of organic realism you don't get in a studio.

^The day is already here, you just haven't spent enough $$$.
