I still kick myself sometimes for not listening to entire albums of artists that I like. How many good songs have I missed out on? Mar 25, 2024 at 8:33 PM

Can't tell if I'm an alcoholic or if I just really like whiskey. This Sonoma rye is delicious.

Do you buy just any kind of liquor and it doesn't even make it back to the house? If so you're probably an alcoholic.

I still keep my very early LCD-2 (Sept 2010). Actually quite like the Eikon pads on them. The bass texture is sublime, though it's certainly quite grainy and dry on top compared to the modded HFMs. I wish the Audezes were built in a way more conducive to modding, but oh well. Brencho borrowed them for a while and they were killer on the Stratus. Way better than expected.

Isn't that 4 too many? If so and if you have a turntable, drill a slightly-smaller-than-spindle-size hole in the middle of one of the extras to recover some of the wasted value.

Given how humid it's been lately, I often turn my A/C on to dry when I'm in my room, which has the inadvertent side effect of making the air cooler. My cruddy main rig is a laptop into the audio stuff off in a corner of my room, definitely warmer :))

Huh, I've actually never seen that thread. I've definitely missed out on some information. Will need to peruse more carefully.

I've always had the mindset before that being intimately familiar with a few recordings is what is most important to comparing systems.

Define "shit recording", though - to me, that's zero dynamic range music (a significant proportion of modern pop), but music with lower levels of noise reduction like Miles Davis's Kind of Blue are perfectly fine recordings imo. I can't see the former being much good for comparisons since they are practically designed to be played on shit equipment.

The room will have huge impact on far field, don't get crazy about how flat a speaker might measure since most are done anechoically. and as @zonto said listen. Perhaps attend a diy speaker meet or local audio club. Lots of value in well done DIY.
