There was a particular Ektachrome I liked, ISO 200, can't remember the branding. I found the reds in the Fuji slide films of the era (late 80s through 90s) too saturated to be realistic for geology pictures.

Ektachrome 200 was Kodak. One of my favorites back in the day. Was used a lot by National Geographic.

Just dug out some of my old slide packs to read the accompanying notes - Ektachrome 100 HC was my standard, evidently I mis-remembered the ISO.

I used to buy a lot of Fujifilm 400 film for everyday/outdoor shots. Tried others but the resulting pictures from that film were really pleasing to the eye. Combine that kind of film with a sharp 50mm and you make pictures to remember.

I'm mostly a people shooter. I really liked Kodak Portra 400 when I was shooting medium format.

I loved Fujifilm Velvia 50 and Kodak TMax.

The Velvia sim in the Fuji cameras is pretty good.

CaptureOne (even the free Fuji edition) has Velvia sim also, so maybe you could give that a try if you're shooting raws. The Pro edition also has it. IIRC they worked directly with Fuji for those looks.

Heh, just remembered I still have 2 packs of Fujifilm Velvia RVP50 5x4" sitting in my wine fridge. I seriously need to eBay that stuff…

For natural portraits Kodak film was better i.m.e. I simply loved, still love the lively colours Fujifilm could bring. A good picture is not always accurate. Sometimes a good picture is (a little) exaggerated...
