I know! Some people take umbrage with the farm saga, but I personally felt it added leagues of depth to Thorfinn and, when read altogether, made for a beautiful flow with the rest of the series. Art is grand and the panels are well laid out. It's just such a beautiful series both because of and in spite of the harsh depictions.
@Lyander I personally loved the farm arc, as we see Thorfinn's perspective on life changes through the people he interacts with. Basically the start of his redemption arc trying to be reborn from a cold hearted assassin that only knew killing and revenge. I think it's a beautiful sentiment to trying to create peace in a world where violence and war are the norm.
Canute's changed so much as well, from a scared, timid prince who was afraid to speak his mind to a respectable king who is not afraid to make the hard decisions for the sake of peace. Pretty cool how they both came to similar conclusions but with vastly different methods
@YMO this is better because real strength is emotions. Jojo hella fun though!
@tommytakis right? It's rare not to get characters that are so flat and unengaging in most mainstream manga, but their respective character arcs and those of others are actually fulfilling to follow. It's a rare series I easily recommend, no cringe caveats.
Ohhhh man I just kill time with a lot of background-watching trash I'd be humiliated to admit seeing haha. Not very much of note otherwise, but I'm really enjoying Blade of the Immortal and SAO Alicization— current arc is slow but badass
SAO... such a trashy anime. yucky yuck yuck. I liked the very first arc though. After that it became difficult to watch. Alicization is not bad, but majority of SAO really embodies the negative stereotypes of anime that most people think of (cool action scenes, cheesy lines about the power of love and friendship, 1D plot and characters, some how all girls fall for the protagonist, etc)
Have you watched Hunter x Hunter (2011)? it has some similarities to Vinland saga if you haven't checked it out yet. haikyuu!!, kimetsu no yaiba, mob psycho 100, Dr. Stone are also great series that easily gets my recommendation
Agreed, but there's more nuance to the current SAO arcs (mostly Mother's Rosario and the back half of Alicization), which makes it not entirely horrible. Kirito is absent for a lot of both these arcs I notice XD
HxH is an old fave, watched both the older anime and the recent one as they aired. Loved that they finally progressed, but damn the mangaka is so slooooow.Haven't seen Mob Psycho but love OPM so have expectations, Kimetsu is on the backburner. Missed out on Haikyuu actually, huh.
Hahaha that's why we call it "hiatus x hiatus" I personally like Mob Psych 100 better than OPM. Haikyuu is sooo good! I never thought I would love a volleyball anime lol. 4th season is coming out soon so it might be a good time to start watching. Highly recommend watching season 1 then reading the manga. The animation team did a fantastic job portraying the manga. and I'll check out Sound! Euophonium :)
Euphonium helped me get back into band music after losing interest a few years back and going full hard rock and metal, haha. The anime's a KyoAni affair so excellent art of course, not to mention the pacing is just about perfect, not to mention the music itself. I listen to the soundtrack reasonably often, haha
