I had a pair for a fews days once. I’d watch that scene from Blade Runner where Deckard and Gaff take off in the flying police car. The ambient synth track is incredible in that scene and was truly orgasmic with the HD700. Another listener had physical goosebumps. But I could never EQ the same result into the HD800.

I think sometimes it’s not that a setup is better but the cost to upgrade might not be worthwhile. So for this customer he might be like okay, my setup isn’t THAT far off and I already own it, so I’m good. Could also just love treble!
Probably just acclimation. When I got the TH900 I could tell they were bright but I listened to them straight out of an iPhone for a long time until I got a system together. Then I started listening to other headphones for awhile before returning to the Fostex. It was quite bewildering. How the hell could I have ever tolerated that!
With the ZMFs, I'm not surprised. The ZMFs I've listened to don't wow in show conditions. With the Focals, maybe he's just used to what he has and doesn't want to change.
