Just a limited edition vinyl release of a video game soundtrack that's now being sold for over double MSRP. Still don't have a turntable nor have any plans of getting one soon, but the soundtrack has a special place in my heart and the album art is by a manga artist whose work I like, hah.

Ah. I have that same problem with some of the soundtracks I'm collecting. The collector's pricing mentality -or thinly veiled greed- of the gaming crowd is getting pretty obnoxious lately. The mark ups on the Amazon Japan versions of the Xenoblade 2 soundtracks are particularly rude. What soundtrack is it you are looking at?

NieR Gestalt and Automata box set, haha. $85 MSRP, now $230+.

I haven't yet played Automata but the first NieR game is special to me. First time ever I was properly gobsmacked by a soundtrack and just sat in a hostile area listening. Gameplay was weird and graphics were PS2 era but I always look back sentimentally on it.

I always wonder if they bought it with the intention of listening to it and couldn't afford the gear... or for the sole purpose of scalping. The latter has become far too common.

Agreed, it just makes the whole "limited edition" market that much more toxic really. Eh, my own fault for not being more stubborn about getting a copy back in 2017, but the fact that it still bugs me often is scary lol.

The whole concept of limited editions is usually a lie. A limited edition is limited to a stated number, and each item may be numbered. If the total number made is is not stated, it is /not/ a limited edition.

I'd say that a great many LEs lean into sophistry taking on the distinction but that's how marketing works, hah.

In this case while the units may not be individually numbered there's a definite scarcity that sucks balls.
