Look on your insurance company’s website for valuable personal property insurance. It is usually an add on to your existing policy. Who is your insurance company?
I specifically asked if additional coverage beyond the amount in the electronics sub-clause could be purchased for audio equipment. Rep told me no, which is odd b/c they'll do it for most other hobbies/equipment (some of which is much more $$). Otherwise with just my general insurance I only get a few hundred of coverage.
While this is nothing new (and not a huge surprise), still annoying that most items that actually has substantial value are sub-claused at very artificially low limits.
Maybe it's not comparable, but about how much do you guys have to pay for insurance on this stuff (PM is fine, I get sharing this info on a public forum may not be ideal)?
If it's under your homeowner's, your deductible may apply. If so, 1% of the value of your house in loss is still pretty much you're SOL.
That's one reason an inland marine style policy is nice (it has another name too, but I forgot it)…it's cheaper, you can move the stuff around to friends' houses, etc., it's still covered. Photographers use it to cover their camera gear.
