Yeah, that's a deal killer IMO. Also I tried Roon years ago, wanted to re-evaluate but because my trial period is up now I can't trial it again. Well, last time I tried anyway, after a couple year gap.
@Ksaurav402 what!? that's a huge bummer... wish they had student discounts or something like spotify haha @GoodEnoughGear Yeah I agree. Maybe in another life where money grows on trees
Yeah, I've trialled Roon as well, and while I did like it, I didn't love it. It's a music player with some cleverness built in, and they scrape metadata from other sites. The price tag was too steep for me as well, and I'll happily continue using Musicbee for my local files and Tidal for streaming. According to Roon/their forums, they're going to shut down the lifetime option at some point and go subscription only.
I'm kicking myself for not getting it when it was only $500. Someone here mentioned that they might do away with lifetime license altogether and have just the subscription plan.
@dubharmonic I like how it integrates everything in your system so fluidly and organizes my music into a neat system. I'm not sure if it's worth the money if you don't have multiple setups/DACs, but could be worth if you want a cohesive system for the whole family to use and access music.
...Spotify only lets me stream one device at a time where Roon you can just keep adding whatever devices that are compatible and run it all at once (phone, laptop, pc, tv, bluetooth speakers, etc.) Seriously impressive software.
Roon for me I love the Metadata, which I think flows better than using UPnP. Also, the data you get from albums and discover if using Qobuz is quite good. Of course, it is pricey software. I do both UPnP and Roon and I been happy with the results.
