The original Creative Roar was very good. And it held up well to almost constant use by my daughter. They have newer versions of it marked down from $250 to $99 and a model I have not heard called Metallix for $39

Think @Vtory uses some Creative Pebble speakers and said they were decent. I use a pair of T30 which I like quite a bit for what they are.

Yeah, I recommend pebble. They're very accessible (=always order-able), cheap, and not that bad. Inherently tilted design help a lot when used on the desktops.

@Vtory did you get the one with a sub or just the two speakers? Curious if the sub is necessary for decent sound

They don't come with a sub. It just goes low enough for this kind of duties -- much lower than macbook pros. But if you're more serious about bass, you'd better increase budget quite a lot...
