i've read 5 reviews of the new taylor swift album so far. judging by those reviews the only thing anyone seems to care about are the lyrics. Apr 19, 2024 at 9:26 AM

stoke! Rancilio Silvia only needs about $100 in small parts to get refurbished. I can rebuild her. I have the technology.

I've got her completely disassembled. Parts order is in. Should only be a few hours to reassemble, test, and "season". I bought a replacement Silvia V4 because I was worried I'd need a new boiler (~$300).

But once I got the old Silvia V3 all pulled apart I was super happy to find it only needed a new boiler gasket and over pressure valve gasket (and some other "while you're in there" stuff). I'll post it up for sale once she's back to health and I've pulled some shots.

I'm still using my bro-in-law's 15 yo hand-me-down V1 I dragged across the Pacific a few years ago. I don't think it's had anything done to it than regular cleaning and descaling.

Rancilio Silvia "died" after about 11 years of daily use. Ordered a new one, but will try to refurbish the old.

I'm just starting with espresso, and I know there's a thread but: how much do you recommend spending on a grinder, in general? I'm looking at getting this exact machine. Particular model give you good results?

For a solid mid-grade grinder I'd highly recommend Baratza Vario. I've had mine for as long as I had Miss Silvia.

It's a good forum; people there have a healthy level of cynicism when it comes to audio. It's a great place to find out what vinyl pressings are the best. I often google "<insert album name here> vinyl Steven Hoffman", and there's always a discussion thread.

About 9:00-9:15 on the dial for about 75-80dB at the listening position (didn't measure, but by seat-of-the-pants, normal listening, not slaying slayer). IIRC, Af does something like 11v @ 600 ohms out, balanced. Don't recall the gain. My AN speakers are (claimed) 94dB/w sensitivity.

Good to know. AF runs my Klipsch's pretty well, but bass is improved with Aegir. Since I did that comparison I had a feedback switch added to my AF, but haven't had a chance to re-do the comparison. Just been listening lately.
