Manual click removal from LP rips is preferred to turning software loose, but it is time consuming. [DUH]

It is some years since I did this, but I seem to remember that a certain amount of auto removal is ok, but real clicks need individual attention. I guess I was only using Audacity: I think you can get it to show you the audio it will remove.

How long does it take? As long as you've got. I hugely admire the people who do archival restoration of rips...

...But it's all a labour of love. Result: probably better than a more recent master on a CD. And it will still have traces of the little imperfections that make it /your/ record :)

Wise words @Vtory. @luckybaer I was fortunate to have a good relationship with a brick and mortar dealer when doing such explorations. I was able to take speakers home for a weekend here and there til I found something I liked. I've also lent my speakers to others for trial listening. Try before you by is a good way to scratch the itch and inform any purchase.

That insult can work on someone with deep pockets if they fear they can not be enraged with the music and only listen to their gear. Synergy matters, but to them their stuff is better than anything else.

The arm and the Soundsmith carts you're looking at are compatible with the traditional formula and would likely work fine together. You could also ask the manufacturer for advice.

But the last sentence of post 2 in the first link is the most succinct: 'if it sounds good, it is good'.

I use BJC for everything (including phono), and have never had one fail after 7+ years.

If you’re planning on running MM carts with your 1210 you’ll want cable capacitance to be as low as you can get, and BJCs will fit the bill in that respect.

The late 90s were the beginning of the loudness wars. Very little quality recording going on with popular music then, and now sadly. Noel Gallagher's latest solo efforts are even worse, just crushed to shit.

Most of them were below average masters, if you ask me. Needless to say, as I had started to accumulate better gear over time, they had sounded worse, not better (flaws not glossed over in mediocrity anymore). Hope the remastered ones, have been uploaded to Tidal.
