Oh, just checked prices on Iconoclast cables. They are a bit out of my price range to put it mildly. I'll order up some good old BJ cables for my needs.
Can't say I blame them - if the market will bear it, why would you not profit? However, one wonders about their veracity around their normal value line of products, or at least I do.
"They are a bit out of my price range to put it mildly" Oh god, yes! But is it bullshit?
I've always thought that if there was something genuine to be done with audio cables, the people to do it would be more like Belden engineers than guys weaving pretty patterns in CAT-5 conductors, or polishing their silver wire for the sound. Or Audioquest.
So perhaps it isn't. But at those prices, I'm never going to know.
Iconoclast is/was Belden's insane attempt to get into the high end of the cable market. My guess is it failed miserably, based on the prices I saw for Belden's finished cables. I am sure BJ is paying close out prices on materials.
I guess that I'm blind. I've been to the Blue Jeans Cable site a couple of times in recent months and this is the first I noticed the iconoclast thing. Next time I'll make sure that the bright shiny object is really new before I say anything about it.
To his credit, Mr. Gareis has some design papers up at the iconoclast site. So one could build cables according to his ideas without spending half a Yggdrasil on a set of interconnects. I doubt that I'm in a position to discriminate between plain but very good BJ cables and Iconoclasts, even if these do provide some real, but 2nd or 3rd order, sonic benefit.
I am acquainted with the owner of BJC, so he's sending me some Iconoclasts to play with. Note, this is not a BJC product line but Belden's. BJC is just terminating them/sonobond welding on the spades/banana plugs.
