My KH310's versus a prototype made by a local company here.

I'm going to *HOPE* its the active + dsp KH310. One of the many benefits to having full electrical control. Those things have to sound amazing.

Mental, KH310 is good but there are many two-way monitors with much better drivers than the Neumann that beat it. There are a ton of passives that beat it too. The plate amps in everything but Quested and ATC are a huge compromise for convenience’s sake.

@Psalmanazar I'm pretty skeptical about the whole studio monitor industry. The hi-tech gang wants to stuff cheap drivers into matchbox sized enclosures, power them with 1kW amps and for the rest DSP-Jesus-take-the-wheel. The boomer British three letter companies et al. have better drivers and amps, but they refuse to innovate. Their stuff sounds more pleasant in well-treated rooms, but it's all grossly overpriced.

@Hrodulf speaker design is very mature tech. The digital innovators aren’t really innovating. The Brits are slowly improving their drivers. They put most hifi speakers to shame for what’s in them but a normal audiophile doesn’t need the best 8” midbass woofer on earth or the best mid dome on earth.

Everyone but ATC, Quested, and Geithain is cheaping out for home and project studio market. Dyn and PMC use plate amps that have no business being on their speakers. Genelecs have always been wtf. Bleh.

I’m pissed off too man. There’s Dayton drivers in many of the newer speakers. Many are using worse drivers than KRK. KRK just has the awful Chinese plate amps based around warmpuke TI/BB chip amps. Gibson owned and fragile as hell.

I bet there is more than 'puny phase linearity'. Compression driver dynamics and ridiculous-tech motors in the one you preferred. Even the amps would probably tip the scales to the favored.

@Priidik the speaker I compared them to is still a prototype, so I bought the one which was available. The prototype had 4x 5W430 midwoofers and a much cheaper compression driver, so it wasn't THAT over the top. The amp still was Hypex FA253. The one I bought is leagues better...
