@dncnexus it mostly hits closer to a Starlett with some major differences: Stock tubes on SW51+ makes sound leaner with P-Lambskin pads with slightly smaller stage and minor increase in sharpness on attacks. Starlett improves stage a bit and increased layering.
...So in other words, SW51+ with stock tubes is about 80%-85% of a sound of the Starlett with some serious differences. Not everyone wants a leaner sound like the SW51+ give out. I think it is worth it to have both. If you really hate strong attacks, Starlett attacks does have good definition but lower attack energy if that make sense.
@YMO would you say in your opinion that the Starlett is worth over the SW51+? I am pretty sold on the Starlett already but always like hearing opinions
@dncnexus get Starlett if you are looking to keep it long term and you want improved layer, benefits of tubes without it sounding like warmpoo mess (just enough bloom), and you are keeping it long term. SW51+ I use it on my computer desk with my lower end DAC while Starlett is in my living room with the BF2.....Post 1...
...Post 2...after owning both I would say if you spending power is not strong, just use the SW51+. However, Starlett just improves on the experience a good bit over the SW51+. Auteur sounds great on Starlett with the improvements over the SW51+, but it also sounds good on a SW51+. Just think about what type of stuff you are going to run on it.
@YMO thanks for the write up! Yea purchasing the Starlett isn't a problem, so think I will go that route. I def want it as my "end-game" tube amplifier. I do hear great things about the SW51+, so might add that into my setup as well just to try it out and have around.
I agree, people have one setup they used with a laptop. I personally hate that, so my weaker high value setup is on my computer desk while my PI setup has the BF2 > Starlett.
