Some LPs really capture how much my musical tastes have changed over time... For example, Tears for Fears, 'Songs from the Big Chair'... Mar 24, 2024 at 7:17 PM

Now that an IEM might have achieved "Super HD650" status, even more frustrating that a headphone hasn't.

Isn't this the third holy grail campfire IEM? Listen for yourself. Also with HD650 it must be specified the tier of amp driven, low to mid tier maybe, Stellaris, Studio, Teton...not a chance in hell.

I like a great headphone rig over a bad 2ch stereo rig, but thats not really a fair comparison. All else held equal I much prefer a modest but decent stereo 2ch rig. I use headphones for situations where I have to, which is about 75% of the time.

The sense of space, palpable bass and physical freedom (i.e. not having anything clamped to my head) make speakers preferable for me. Sometimes I do reach for headphones though when I want the cleanest possible sound (free from room reflections and interactions).

For sure, gear breaks (both voluntary and involuntary) have helped me appreciate both the music and gear more. I also think it's generally true that yesterday's crappy recordings sounded better than today's (primarily due to loudness wars). in that sense, none of us can ever really go back, and you just hope better recording practices return.
