For reference, I don't see this as a problem; I'm still above 9'o'clock for Jot R, and if I use Utopia with Starlett, I can always turn the gain down a bit (the knob is at where the number 1 is on high gain, but the pot is so good I don't hear any channel imbalance).
I surmise we tend to set the volume to our own optimal position that is determined by a number of factors -- as opposed to sound pressure only. I bet if you 'measure' spl then everything would follow the specs.
Note there are two non-wrong ways: "Enough info at lower vol" vs "Not harsh at higher vol".
Actually, I'm a dumbass. This is because I'm only using the XLR-out from Yggdrasil (it goes to Jensen 1:1 transformer). I used SE from XSP, which is not as hot.
