Before I met my wife, I used to rent a 2 bedroom house that backed up to a big wooded area, so there were always spiders around and in the house. ...and when I opened the bathroom door I was confronted with a scene from a horror movie. A momma spider had taken up residency in one of the recessed lighting fixtures and had given birth (hellspawned?) to a multitude of little spiders that were all dangling from my ceiling or walking on it. 50+ I'd bet. And I really had to go, so the best thing I could come up with was to get a wet Swiffer on the Swiffer mop and wipe my ceiling of the demons. I'll never not look up walking into a bathroom for the rest of my life, that scene is forever burned into my brain, lol.
I scoop every spider I find up in a glass and put it outside. They're creepy looking, but you have to remember that we're a thousand times bigger and they're terrified of us.
There's nothing that can really hurt you in SoCal. Black Widow spiders aren't aggressive and usually only bite if you accidentally trap (or try and handle) them. If they bite, it's uncomfortable but very rarely a problem. Despite what people think, we don't get Brown Recluse spiders. We get spiders that look similar, but are harmless.
