I know the feeling. I got a call yesterday from UCSF Med Center billing. Someone screwed up billing my insurance and I owe money from the last three years. But they aren’t sure how much because the insurance company screwed up too.
Don't pay anything until they get the insurance billed correctly, and the insurance has settled their part first.
Hospitals are happy to take the money no matter who's paying, and if you pay first then it's up to you to collect reimbursement from the insurance company.
They’re going to send it over to their audit unit and figure out what’s wrong. And then they will contact the insurance company. I’m supposed to hear back sometime next week. Wish me luck. Looks like I won’t be buying any new gear for a while.
