Realistically speaking I've been having trouble enjoying video games for years now so that's probably low priority, but Cyberpunk 2077 looks intriguing so that might be fun to look into haha. Guess that'll be my baseline to run without all the bells and whistles, besides multimedia use.

1070M is probably enough for 60FPS 1080p gaming with settings all to the max aside from maybe anti-aliasing.

@E_Schaaf M as in the mobile variant? Huh, will keep that in mind, thanks! Yeah used GTX1070 (non-M) prices look pretty damn good on my end, the only risk is making sure the previous owner didn't melt them mining for BTC or whatever haha.

Is there any way to verify a graphics card's condition immediately after receipt to make sure it won't crap out on me within a month or so?

I have the desktop 1070 and my partner has the mobile 1070 in a laptop. Both don't break a sweat the way I described above, though the desktop version is a bit faster as expected. Never bought a used graphics card so can't advise on condition!

Ah no worries. I might just bite the bullet and buy one off the shelf, maybe see if I can negotiate a better price for myself considering it came out... 2016! Might go for whatever came out the year after if it's none too pricey, but damn

Seconded for the 1070. I don't game a ton, but I've got a 165 Hz WQHD screen and the card still performs under native resolution. Usually if I reduce AA I can hit 60-90 FPS. Go for it if price is right for you.

Honestly considering how much graphics cards tend to cost the NIB 1070s I see up for sale aren't too bad, though they're still a minor stretch. Eh my lappy'll hold up for as long as it needs to, even if it occasionally runs like it's GOT the runs :))

Honestly I'd say the 10xx series is probably pushing retirement age pretty soon here. I'd save up and hold off on the trigger for as long as you can, and either spring for the 30xx series or find something in the 20xx series at a good discount.

Adding to that (character limits) the other reason is once the lower end 3060 and 3070 come out, it'll probably drive down the price of your 1070/1080 and 2060s some more, giving you more bang for your buck.

@FallingObjects I'm not buying anytime soon I think, just wanted to make sure I had something lined up for when my pet dinosaur (poor lappy, ageing so quickly) goes into retirement. Good points on the lower-end 30 cards driving the price down and 10 probably losing grace soon, much obliged :)
