Don't get me wrong. They're still comfortable on head with the suspension strap. Lamb pads feel cushiony and luxurious. But every second I move my head, I should fight against torque and rotational inertia on top of already heavy my head. Oh well.
I don't mind the weight of the Auteur, even the LCD-4 doesn't bother me much. When I first heard all of the ZMFs I much preferred the Auteur to the Verite, but tastes can change over time!
I rolled through ZMFs frequently when UA dealt them (now they just sell direct - good for them!). Verite was consistently my least favorite for tone and timbre but I did appreciate the microdynamics. Eikon was my favorite, but the subtle low treble push and relatively subdued dynamics left me wanting too. So I turned to TH900s for their insane magnet/control with that bio timbre and not looking back.
It's gonna go on loaner as soon as Full Compass gets me my drivers so I can clone the loaner pair for myself! But nah the TH900 actually sucks ass without some seriously invasive and irreversible surgery. But damn transformed afterwards.
@E_Schaaf your take on the ZMF lineup really lines up with mine having tried everything except Atticus/VC. Now just imagining the TH900 driver with what you have accomplished in a VC body.
@Inoculator Evan's modded TH900 smokes any closedbacks I've heard imho: Tonally agreeable, skull shaking slam, biocellulose timbre, and sounds great even from a smart phone/laptop (but can scale like mad in full sized setups)
I'd say Verite Closed is a close second. VC probably out-resolves it by a bit because of BE-coated driver, but ESX900 is a lot slammier and more fun. Definitely sign up for the loaner when it happens!
