I get not wanting to boot from spinning rust, but they still win the cost of capacity argument. I'm happy to use my old HDDs for cold storage of media and backups. Also good for NAS.

Yes, why? @nishan99, you can run off punched cards if you want to, but some of us neither want nor need anything other than hdd.

At least, when I say, "don't want," I mean that it is a long way down the list of things to spend money on.

My problem is with hdd based computers, when you boot your PC from hdd, for storage hdd still the king.

Nowadays low end SSDs are really cheap and comparable in price to hdd. So why on earth use hdd for booting?

You don't know if you need an ssd until you live it :)

I don't boot my computer many times a day. Sometimes just once. And I'm so lazy I might use a Wake-On-Lan app from my phone while I'm still lying on the sofa reading the newspaper. It mostly doesn't matter to me if it takes 2 seconds or 2 minutes to boot.

I don't use Windows; Linux boots fairly quickly. SSD would be good for loading one or two programs, but not so much that I'd move it up the spending list.

I didn't meant boot in a literal way, I meant running the OS off an hdd.

    Yeah Linux is an exception.

Not saying that I wouldn't love it if pics came up in my photo-editing software super-instant. But hey, the PC is ten years old, so the disc is not the only factor. And I use WD Black, which are noticably quicker.
