My personal misheard lyric is from Men At Work "Down Under". I always heard it as "He just smiled and gave me a bite of my sandwich". Back then I didn't know vegemite was a word or a thing. So I tried to make lyrics that somehow matched what I thought I heard.

Makes total sense! (BTW, Vegemite is an acquired taste...be prepared for salty/yeasty spread when you try it for the first time.)

I've since learned what Marmite and Vegemite are. And I've tried them both. I've had Australian meat pie with Vegemite mixed in. I've had buttered toast and biscuits with Marmite. I like strong stout beer. Marmite and Vegemite are like dried up yeast sediments from the vats used to make stout beer. I'm part English. That may explain how I can manage to eat that stuff.

There's a word for this: mondegreen, coming from the common mishearing "Laid him on the green," as "Lady Mondegreen," in an English folk song.

Before I knew the name of the song, Stiff Little Fingers' "Alternative Ulster" always made me wonder why a bunch of N Irish kids would be singing so passionately about an Italian Mobster.
